A Nature Memorial

A Nature Memorial

The old oak at Skogsekeby in Tungelsta. This tree is protected (since 1945), as a naturminne, or a nature memorial if you like. Just across the road there's another majestic old oak. There are a total of seven protected naturminnen in Haninge. Here is another historic fact. This road dates back to the Viking era, so it's around 1000 years old. It's part of the old Häradsvägen to Stockholm. This part of the road hasn't changed much over the last 400 years, if you don't count the fact that it has been paved.

A beautiful road with these stately oak trees. Then to think that the Vikings used it already for their travels! Thanks for sharing.

It does get you thinking. If you continue up this road for about a km there's a runestone from the viking era at the side of the road.
