A meeting in the digital world, at least that is how the artist Klaus Appelt sees it. From the 2011 Art Promenade at the gallery in rural Österhaninge. The theme this year is Meetings. I think Klaus feels that online meetings are not as good as the ones IRL.

mmm ... I am not sure where I stand on this question. I think the two types can be complementary. I would not like to have ONLY virtual meetups. I do like to meet my virtual friends IRL. However, virtual friendships can be valuable and deep - because they are a meeting of the mind, rather than being side-tracked by bodily manifestations (not only sex, but clothes and status etc). And of course, distance is no barrier with virtual meetups.
But sometimes on gets a lot of information from body language and the whites of their eyes.
I have all the things necessary to have a virtual meeting{!!} but have never used.beep! beep! alarm! technophobe, technophobe on the loose, that's me by the way hahaha!!Cool piece of art though.
Kind of Stone Age meets the Digital Age! At least it's provoking a lot of thought.
Photos are a kind of virtual meeting between you and the subject. We should be used to it by now.

With my daughter on another continent, I am thrilled that Skype is available. But, I agree with the concern. How many times have we seen two young people sitting side by side in silence as their thumbs communicate with someone elsewhere?
Every day we humans fall a bit back in this digital world. Have a heart!
Each to his own. It's summer here now, we had 30C today. I stopped by the cultural centre a few hours ago, where a bunch of kids have been sitting in front of their computer screens all week. Some sort of fantasy role play thing going on, as everyone else is heading for the beach!
Incidentally Jack, the guy that invented Skype lives here in Haninge, but I am yet to meet him.
