Partially blinded by the snow

Partially blinded by the snow

The Jester. A sculpture by Bror Marklund. He was an artist that lived and worked in Tungelsta when my dad was young, many moons ago. My dad told me that Marklund also did many erotic sculptures, and that he used a few local girls as models for some of his artworks. He later married one of them, a girl called Margit Eleonora Forsberg. Her father owned a carpentry shop in Tungelsta where Marklund worked early on in his career. On a personal note I could add that I went to school with a girl from the Forsberg family, and I think Margit was her grandmother.

You've taken this at the best angle. I feel as if he's reaching out to me, as will all those who view it. Well done.

He really does look like he is a blind man reaching out.

It is amazing how things get around. I am talking about the trials and tribulations of birds and bees.

I like the sculpture. A real gift to the city.

Cool photo of the snow capped sculpture! It sort of reminds of the Granlund sculptures around here by a Swedish American sculptor who was "in residence" at Gustavus Adolphus College.

Interesting sculpture and story. Do you know what the sculpture represents - what he's holding in his hand and why he's reaching out?

The artist was a bit vague about this. The Jester is a returning figure in his art. He said that it represents certain occurrences in society, but he wouldn't elaborate more on it.

What a great shot. Snow over your eyes, a great cure after a heavy night out.

Great shot. I kind of like the hand reaching out.

This juggler is lucky the ball is frozen in place from the extreme cold, otherwise he might drop one because he has snow in his eye! Cool sculpture ... in more ways than one.

Well, everyone has to have a grandmother - I hope she enjoyed having a colorful one!

Nice shot. I wonder how much sculptors of outdoor sculpture think about how their work will be affected by nature...

Interesting post, and it really does look like he's reaching out as though he can't see. Good shot Steffe.

Wow, this is so powerful, Steffe. The patina is so gorgeous as well as that snow. I love the history you tell.

Really liked yesterday's buried bike too.
