From one of my many visits this past Summer to the cemetery Norra begravningsplatsen in Solna. This is a monument to a balloon expedition that ended in tragedy. You can read up on it here. Oh, and I spotted Bea Uusma out shopping at Götgatsbacken just two days ago. She is a doctor, and author, who wrote the book about this expedition.

Well sometimes an expedition can be very disappointing but a nice memorial.
I don't think I had ever heard of this tragedy before. What a fascinating history with a sad ending. This memorial is very impressive.
That's very tall memorial. I never heard of this expedition and I've read a few books about polar expeditions. Thanks for the link.
A powerful monument indeed. I am off to read about the expedition.
