This bronze sculpture is called The Philosopher. He sits in the middle of a lawn near a few benches, at the bus stop at the mall in Handen, so he is often surrounded by a lot of people. Whenever I see him I think of Gollum, from The Lord of the Rings by Tolkien. The artist is a sculptor called Sture Collin, who has done quite a few works of art in this style. I posted another photo of this artwork on another blog a few years ago, and the artists son, Max found it and left a comment.

Yes, I can see Gollum, but my first thoughts were to Rodin's sculpture, 'The Burghers of Calais' which I think is especially splendid.

I like this work, it reminds me of something I have seen recently, but I can't remember where I have seen these works. Probably online...
The photo looks great and works wonderfully as a B+W. It does remind one of Gollum.

I have been out of touch and obviously have missed a lot on your blog. Love your compilation of street portraits, I am always amazed by your ability to reach out to people, and their candor in return. But you know I had to comment on this one. This is really an amazing piece, there is so much emotion there, the eyes are really wonderful. I see your connection with gollum. And of course the fierce puppy dog - glad you made it home alive :-).
