Tjejmilen

Tjejmilen Heja Ingrid Tjejmilen tjejmilen
Tjejmilen is an annual 10k race (since 1984), open only for women, (although I spotted at least one man in the race!). This year, nearly 20 000 runners took part. People come from all over the world to take part. Many streets were closed off in Stockholm, and there were spectators lining the streets everywhere. I had no problem riding my bike though and stopped at a number of places for photos. A few more photos in my album.

Out on the water

M/S Birka Gotland Cri-Ma-He Ship ahoy Waldemarsviken Mein Schiff 7 Edströms sjötransport
On the same day as the BBQ and the thunderstorm, I cycled around Royal Djurgården. My goal was a sculpture museum at Waldemarsudde. Before, during, and after that visit I managed to photograph a few boats. They come in different shapes and sizes.

Two stories

Two stories
On my way to a BBQ. A bit early, so I stopped at the beach at Lake Flaten. Sat next to a drunk couple. Always fun. Long discussion about what to drink and what not to mix with other spirits. The woman had enjoyed a cocktail with Cointreau, and explained how good it was. The guy lost it completely. He nearly had a heart attack while screaming for maybe five minutes how you can't make a cocktail from Cointreau because it is the best Triple sec liqueur in the world! After hearing that, I jumped on the bike and pedaled over to Villa Blåmes, where three of the usual suspects enjoyed grilled meat, beer, whiskey, and more. A few hours later, the worst thunderstorm of the Summer got under way as I cycled for home. Lighting struck everywhere, and it rained hard all the way home. A bit scary, but I survived to tell the story, although I have never been so soaking wet in my life.

That Old Tree

That Old Tree
A September visit to the old tree, two days ago. It looked ready for Autumn. Maybe 18C. Summer already feels like a distant memory, although I still have a few hundred Summer snaps to go through.

The Rabbitbird

The Rabbitbird
A seven-meter high mural at an old industrial area at Hagalund in Solna. Called the Rabbitbird. Or KaninFågeln. Twin girls in their nightdresses. Spray-painted onto a six-story building. Part of a project called Moving Murals from 2018. A collaboration between Performing Pictures and La Piztola from Mexico. Photographed from far-away using the zoom lens.

Nice day for it

Sjöstadsdagen
I decided to check out the annual Sjöstadsdagen at Luma in Hammarby Sjöstad. A fine Summer day. Lots of street food. And flea markets. This used to be an industrial area and I remember visiting here back then, when I worked at an industrial company on Södermalm. All that industry is gone today, replaced with modern apartments, and many of the 25000 people living here, mostly young families were present during the festivities. There were a few stages with performances, but only checked out this area at Luma.

A hot day in September

Betongbryggan
Sure was a hot day yesterday. All over Sweden. Records for September broken everywhere. For people used to the heat in, say, Arizona or Australia this is of course nothing to write home about, but for us up here it was a bit special. It was around 26C in Stockholm. I visited Skeppsholmen, (looking at all the old boats), and Hagaparken, (circled round the Crown Princess home), but before that I stopped on the Skanstull bridge for my obligatory photo of the concrete pier.

Staring contest

Staring contest
Out walking at Arenastaden in Solna a while back. The plan was to photograph interesting architecture of which there is a lot, and also snapping some people shots, which is fairly easy as the biggest mall in the country can be found here. And then I spotted this scene while walking over a bridge. The office staring contest.

Relaxing on the bed

Relaxing in bed
Hornsgatan is a street on Södermalm. Known for a few things. There are many art galleries here. Also quite a few restaurants, pubs and nightclubs. As well a church, a few squares and much more. There is also the Hornsgatspuckeln. Or in French, appareil. And it was while walking down that appareil that I took this photo of the barber shop Hårsvallet, located on the other side of the street. My eyes were drawn to the bike in the window above, and if you look more closely you can see the feet of someone taking an afternoon nap on the bed!

Take the stairs

Take the stairs
This is Rackarbacken. The stairs will give you a good workout if you have to climb them. They will take you from Ringvägen on Södermalm up to a terrace, and to a big hospital called Södersjukhuset, where I was born quite a few years ago now.

A football game with a difference

A football game with a difference
Bubble ball. Or bumper ball. Spotted this game at Gubbängen. I have also seen it played at Hagaparken, most likely by new university students as a bonding thing. Looks like fun.

Cemetery Bridge

Scattering Garden
Theme Day. Bridges. This is a newly renovated bridge at the century old Skogskyrkogården cemetery. A new cremation scattering garden in a natural ravine opened here earlier in the Summer. I walked around it recently and everything looked fine. I will show you more of it in a later post. The renovated bridge is called Lewerentz-bron after one of the original architects who is buried at the cemetery btw. I noticed the guy walking over the bridge, he spotted me while I took a few photos. I am pretty sure that we have met somewhere, at my favorite café, maybe. But I got the feeling that he was not up for a chat, so I didn't approach him.
