Nine photos from a cow pasture

Cycling past the cow pasture at Lännaviken in Huddinge, at Lake Drevviken, I noticed that the cattle were back at their barn, so I decided to walk in to the pasture as it is also a nature reserve. There is a note on the gate informing visitors about how to behave, and also a phone number if there's an issue with the cows. But on my visit yesterday, it was just me there. I had to mind my step, but managed to not walk in any spilling. You have a good view over the lake to Norrby, where my BBQ buddy Hans lives. Closer to the water, all I could see was the two-meter-high common reed. I figured it would look nice in B&W.

Cows in a pasture

On my bike rides to Stockholm, I often ride past this pasture at Lännaviken in Huddinge. The cows have a big area mostly for themselves here. But last Summer they were accompanied by a group of sheep. You can walk in if you feel like it, and I often see people wandering around here when the cows are back at their barn. You have to be careful where you put your feet though as the pasture goes all the way down to the Drevviken lake.

Moo!

I bike past this pasture along Gamla Dalarövägen in Huddinge a few times every week. There are also some sheep in there. The animals are very popular with passersby, young and old. Close to Lake Drevviken. Workers repaved the road here a month ago, and the cows got some new fans that week. There is a nature reserve here, so you can walk in, at least if you don't disturb the animals, but they are usually only there during the warm part of the year.

Kram

This is a bit unusual. A very Swedish type of street art. A roundabout dog. Usually you will find them, at, you guessed it, a roundabout. This one stands on a hill overlooking Lake Ådran, and there's no roundabout in this area at all. Oh, and kram is the Swedish word for hug. I found it while out riding my new eBike, taking a shortcut between two roads with very heavy traffic.

Lake Magelungen

I took a walk at Lake Magelungen with one of the usual suspects. It was a great Summer day, 26C from a blueish sky. You will find yourself both in Stockholm and Huddinge during the walk. We walked from Ågesta Broväg along the boardwalk, past a beach and an old Inn, an outdoor gym and then continued over the old military bridge to Farstanäset where I decided to photograph a bunch of houses, new and old.

A walk around a lake

I decided to go for a walk around a lake recently. In the neighboring municipality Huddinge. The lake is called Lissmasjön. There are a couple of farms nearby. It is in a nature reserve these days. It's a short walk, around 3km. I started my walk at an abandoned cottage known as Sumpen, back in the day it was home to the farmworkers. From there walked down to the lake via the boardwalk. You have a great view of the lake from there. If you enjoy miniature golf, flea markets or classic car meets Lissma park would normally be a good place for you to visit. I then continued to one of the old farm buildings where I got an interesting history lesson. Many Soviet soldiers fleeing from prison camps in Europe during WWII fled to Sweden. Some of them ended up in internment camps like this one at the Lissma farm. It was all very hush-hush. In reality, the camp was run by the NKVD that later became the KGB. The camp closed in 1946. Many of the soldiers that were sent back to the Soviet Union ended up in the Gulag. During their stay here the prisoners that included opera singers and Kosack dancers set up dances and concerts. I should point out that this building at the farm was not used by the prisoners. My walk continued on duckboards over to the bird tower from where you had another view over the little lake. Following the path, I walked into a cow pasture where I snapped the tree photo, before walking past the farm with the unusual name Nybygget.

Cooling Tower

This is the Ågesta Nuclear Plant in Huddinge. Or at least the one remaining cooling tower up on the hill. Designed by Sture Frölén, it was in operation between 1963 to 1974. history.vattenfall.com/from-hydro-power-to-solar-cells/th...

The last Classic Car meet of the Summer

I visited the big car meet at Sundby Gård on Saturday. They have a weekly meet every Wednesday during the Summer month and they counted 544 cars at one of those meets. This meet was the season finale and the second annual Classic Cars and Customs as it is called. I arrived with my buddy Bengt, (he is the guy in the fourth photo), in the early afternoon. As we approached we noticed many cars leaving and we asked why only to be told that the park was filled to capacity! So we parked outside and walked in. It is Mid-September but it was a as hot as on a very warm Swedish Summer day and when we left after three hours i was really feeling the heat. More photos from this event in the coming days.

Balingsta Windmill

The old windmill at Ballingsta, overlooking the Orlången lake in Huddinge. It dates back to 1877. Originally the mill stood lower down on a field at the Balingsta Farm but was then moved up onto the hill. This type of mill is known as a "Dutch Mill" which means that it could rotate with the direction of the wind.

A stone memorial

Long story. Seven years ago at my barbers place I started to talk with another customer,Johan Henchen. He knew who I was and had something to tell me. While para motoring over a forest in Länna he had spotted a standing stone deep in the forest. He wanted me to check it out. I told a friend about it and he took his hiking boots and walked out into the forest. He found the stone and we learned the sad story. Now seven years later I finally saw the stone with my own eyes. And it really is a sad story. I hope you excuse my goofy photos. I took a few normal snaps of the stone but the camera wasn't working as it should. It was the Autumn of 1941. Lennart Wikholm was a young student. At seventeen years of age he was taking part in an orienteering event in the Länna forest when he had an accident. He fell badly and hurt himself. Sixty soldiers, twenty-five police officers with search dogs and a number of scouts were sent out to find him. He was found dead here two days later. It is a very tricky terrain and he must have fallen down somewhere and lost his compass and map. He then spent two cold nights in the forest (he wasn't dressed for that),before he was found dead. Injuries found on his body talks about a very tough struggle. It is possible that he had broken one of his legs. Again, sorry if my photos offend anyone. It's just a facade

Patterns of Failure

If you are an artist like Sirous Namazi this is what you get when you mix porcelain with epoxy glue. This is a sculpture from his project Patterns of Failure, where he smashed porcelain and made sculptures from the pieces. Sirous is a former student at the Malmö Art Academy. He is originally from Iran and came to Sweden at the age of thirteen. From my recent visit to Flemingsberg.

Reaching For The Sky

Today's photo is not from Haninge, but from the neighbouring municipality Huddinge. And it shows the new student apartment building at Flemingsberg. Thirteen stories high with a total of 169 one-bedroom apartments of approximately 24 square metres, with fantastic views. Ninety one of those apartments will have a French Balcony. On the entrance floor there will be a gym open 24/7 run by Fitness24seven. The first students will move in sometime around August I think. It's part of the Flemingsberg Campus where you will also find the Södertörns College.

Smoking Pavilion

The smoking pavilion in front of the hospital in Huddinge. I noticed a few sick people nearby. One of them, a woman was hooked up with two infusion bags, but still managed to drag herself out from the hospital towards the pavilion to try to and kill herself with yet another cigarette. Of course the promenade did perhaps do her some good...
