Lucia Bride of Sweden
This is Emma Johansson from Örkelljunga in Skåne. She has been crowned the 2008 Lucia Bride of Sweden as we celebrate Saint Lucy's Day. Emma visited the Christmas Market in Västerhaninge on Saturday with her Lucia maids as they sang the traditional songs in front of a capacity crowd at the shopping centre. After the performance they headed off to Skansen in Stockholm for the traditional celebration that takes place there every year.

I only learned about Sta. Lucia this week — very interesting customs attached to her day. I take it that 'Lucia Bride of Sweden' is chosen not just for her beauty but also her voice?
I hope that she doesn't have flamable hairspray on!
I remember celebrating "Santa Lucia" in Milan with the Swedish Colony in the early seventies. I had just arrived in Italy and had no contacts yet. I was then "adopted" by some newly made Swedish friends and I vividly remember their warm-hearted hospitality during this celebration of "Light"!!
Thanks for sharing!
Hello Hilda. Going back many years it's readers of a popular magazine that vote on their favorite Lucia candidate. Not sure what the qualifications are, but you sure need to be able to sing as the Lucia and her maids tour the country singing and working for charity's. Spot on Kris! These days most Lucia's have a battery operated crown after a few earlier incidents!
I never heard of this award before, well she is a good looking winner, congrats to her.
