National Gingerbread Day
We have been eating "Pepparkakor" in Sweden for 700 years. The first known pepparkaka was baked for medicinal use by nuns. Later a Swedish King, Hans (he ruled over Sweden, Norway and Denmark), was ordered by his doctor to eat pepparkakor as it would make him a nicer person (he was a bit on the grumpy side). Anyway, yesterday we celebrated Pepparkakans Dag, or National Gingerbread Day!

wonderful composition. yummm.
Did it make you less grumpy?
If Swedes have been eating the stuff for 700 years, then some of my relatives should have been a hell of a lot nicer than they were! :-)
I love ginger and definitely eat it when I'm feeling a wee bit grumpy haha! Such an inviting image Steffe.
It doesn't always work Lowell...
This composition is superb, Steffe. I didn't know about the long, historic role of gingerbread in Sweden. I learn something new on these blogs every day.
Very cool composition! We don't have the gingerbread tradition here.
No tradition here, but I would gladly try it!
The image is so smooth and delicious. We deserve more days like this and less stupid Nobel Prize to institucions that don't deserve that important prize. Hugs.

We should honour food more often. Chocolate Day?
I think I should have some gingerbread from time to time...
Cool shot, it makes me want to have some of them!
Chocolate Day was a GREAT idea too. :)
nice focus on the pepparkakor.
I was in IKEA today and bought some, but nobody told me it was a special day.
