Three Portraits
Three different portraits from the Haninge Day at Lake Rudan. The first one was tough. I approached the Buddhist monk and asked for a portrait. He didn't seem to understand Swedish so I tried English. That didn't work either so I did the international sign for Can I Take Your Photo? and that worked fine. I then tried to get his name and that was equally tricky but I think he is called Phra. When we were done he thanked me in Swedish so he has picked up some of the language! The second portrait was obvious for two reasons. I really liked her wellies and it was the sensible thing to wear considering the weather. I didn't ask for her name but she was handing out information about Itrim, a weight loss and fitness chain. The third portrait shows Kjell Kronqvist. I have met him a few times. He is the chairman of the group of artists that holds the annual Art Promenade in Österhaninge. In a way he has already made an appearance on this blog, at least if you count the silly artwork that his wife made for this years promenade. If you missed it, check it out here.

3 beaux portraits differents, superbe les bottes sur la 2eme et les moustaches sur la 3eme ;))
Great shots Steffe! Very nice.
it looks as if it's turned nippy there. i imagine a little mouse taking a ride on the mustache of the last fellow.
Steffe- I love these portraits; especially the monk. I am thinking about joinginthe 100 strangers project on Flickr, but I am very shy about walking up ot strangers and asking them if I may take their picture. How do you handle this uncomfortable situation?
All unique individuals, beautifully done !
I love all three Steffe, he monk looks very 'serene', love the flowery wellies, my daughter has a very similar pair, and the 'mustache' on the gentleman in the last picture is magnificent, I know someone who would immediately fall in love with him!!
That was the reason I joined the strangers project Reed. I was very uncomfortable striking up a conversation with a stranger, so I took it as a personal challenge. Prepare an explanation about why you would like to take a portrait. Don't approach people with the camera ready. Tell people what it was about them that made you want to take a photo. Ask a few questions before you start shooting. Bring a notebook. Print a MOO minicard from your flickr archive and hand out to everyone you photograph. The nervousness will probably always be there but soon you will be able to handle it. Good luck!
And there was me thinking that it was your natural animal magnetism that got all those complete strangers - swedish ones at that! - allowing you to take all those portraits!
I rather like his wife's artwork - and his moustache is very easily identifiable in that meeting.
This is the second orange monk from up North in two days, I like the mustachioed guy very much, but obviously my favorite is the middle portrait, even for her wellies, but non only...
Kjell looks like one of our American actors (can't think of his name) and you're right, his wife's art is silly. Very silly!
Now, that's a 'stache!
this is a great posting, wonderful pictures and interesting subject.
the fact that they are so different is an additional plus - I will learn from that because I am always trying to find links in my photo's somewhere..
3 good portraits, I don't have a real preference. All 3 seem to be strong characters. The girl is beautiful.
Love that guy with with handlebar mustache the best...
nice.
wellies? thats a new word for me, but i liked them as well! was the first thing i noticed about her
They have many names Cat. I added a bunch of tags on the photo on flickr because there are a lot of people out there that like that sort of thing...
Three fun portraits! The third one brings so many questions. Like Brattcat, those curls of his mustache set off many thoughts. I wonder the story behind the chipped teeth, the sparkle in his eyes and his happiness.
I've taken photos of women in Asian religious orders, and although they were kind enough to pose, our connection ended up being photography (they had big cams, too :-). )
PS, You should see this year's patterns for wellies! They are super. . .just saw a few at the shoe store.
