A Day on the Bay
The sun was shining from a clear blue sky on Sunday so I jumped on the bike and headed for the beach. After shooting a panorama from one of the piers I sat down on the big bench near the water and started talking with Gunnar and Annette. They are from Haninge and have a summer house here at Årsta Havsbad. We talked about this and that for a few minutes as we were enjoying the sunshine and looking at the ice skaters out on the frozen Hårsfjärden bay. Skating on natural ice is a big winter sport in Sweden so I decided to get a portrait of one of the skaters. This is Elisabeth who lives and works in Stockholm. And just like Gunnar and Anette, Elisabeth has a summer house here near the beach. On this day she was out skating with a friend, (another Elisabeth). She told me that they were rather new to this sport so they decided to stay close to the beach.

Wonderful sun and warmth on the face of Elisabeth. She looks very happy with herself. Another great portait.
the kiss of sunlight transforms every expression into one of bliss.
What a great place and beautiful day.
What a wonderful day! Strange looking skates.
I had to go to google translate to figure out the quote you left on my blog - my own translation was very weird! Thanks.
i like the first pic very much!
here it was amazingly sunny too....
The woman's expression in the top photo is blissful. Nice shot.
I'm just struck that that ice is a bay!
Nice shots from a beautiful day!
I can almost feel the warm sun shining on my face, too!
How thick does the ice become there? I think it is very smart to skate with the poles!
Love the faces turned toward the sun. . .
Never seen skates like those . . .are they common there?
Looks like fun. Enjoyed your photos of the frozen bay!
Very nice portrait pictures and just the right amount of words for the introduction to the people in the picture.
That is a very good question Margaret, I have asked an organisation that should know the answer, and I'm hoping they will leave a comment here.
It's a very weird saying RedPat!
Check out this Summer vs. Winter diptych T! It's two photos of this bay shot from above the beach.
Very common Sharon.
A day at the beach can be lovely no matter what the temperature is! Elisabeth looks like she's reveling in the sunlight.
Such evocative shots. You can almost feel the warmth of the sun. Winter days like that are just great.
Very beautiful. For a southern european ice lands are something magical and mysterious, like some part of our soul missing.
Cheers!
I used to skate on frozen ponds and lakes back when I was a kid and didn't know any better and had to live in Minnesota!
Great fun, though. Looks like you have a gorgeous day for skating and photography!
Your photos are visually compelling!
beautiful scenery, a mother who looked far arahh.
seemed to interpret the time he passed the rigid until he is able to stand this cold season strong.
