At the Cafe

At the cafe

I was having coffee at Malmens konditori in Handen with Jim and Fred yesterday afternoon. At the next table Sara and her baby daughter Saga was waiting for Lena and Agnes to arrive. The two young mothers who both live in Haninge met at the baby clinic some seven months ago. Sara (in the black top), is a secondary school teacher that teaches Swedish and Latin at the Skogås Gymnasium. Lena is an IT Support Manager. But at the moment they are both on parental leave. We talked a bit about Tungelsta, and all the abandoned greenhouses there, and I told Lena to head over to Wolmer's nursery and nick some roses there before they disappear, something she had planned to do, but not yet dared. Just blame me I told her.

Nice picture, I'm amazed they got to finish their meal with such little ones! I've never heard of the term "nick", is this a Swedish word? I'm interpreting it as "get" or "steal".

A couple of healthy looking babies, well nourished.
By the way Steffe, I had to have my eyes tested yesterday and the optometrist was Swedish, so my new glasses will be tops.

When we were in Scandinavia we noticed how many mothers with young children we saw out and around enjoying walks pushing baby strollers,, having lunch at outdoor cafes, etc. We definitely saw much more of that in Sweden than in the USA. We later learned that there is one year of paid parental leave. No wonder. That explained it.

Happy Summer Days!! ( I still remember the amount of snow you had.) Anyway, at the moment I think you have warmer days than us.... so please send some over here.... Both the kids and the mummy`s looks healthy and happy! That is the way it should be! The first year is important, and I guess you as well as us in Norway have some weeks/months the dad take free from work and spend with the baby too. (?)

It's nice these women found each other. I am sure there are many mothers who could use an "adult" chat every once in awhile.

Spot on T.

You do see many dads out strolling as well Dave, which is great.

I hope you are right about that Bill!

I seem to remember that snow Gunn.
