Possible Arson Attack

School Fire

I was sitting at my computer last evening when I suddenly heard a strange noise outside. I couldn't see anything from where I was, but looking out from the kitchen window I noticed a lot of smoke from the nearby school. I grabbed my camera and ran through the deep snow over to the school to see what had happened. As I came around a corner I could see a lot of smoke from one of the class rooms. The Södertörn Fire and Rescue Service had arrived, and there was a lot of fire fighters, police officers and ambulance personnel at the scene. Luckily no one seem to have been injured. I took a few photos and then walked back home again. On this photo you can see a few smoke divers preparing to go into the burning building. There has been a lot of school fires in Sweden this year, nearly all of them have been started by kids so this could be another arson attack. This incident took place just around the corner from the two car fires I showed you back in October. My flickr contact Tobias Asplind has a few more photos from this fire on his web site. Half an hour after I took my photos the fire had been stopped according to Aftonbladet.

Oj da! Did the firemen recognize you as the daily photo blogger in town with a ready camera?
Godt Nytt Ar!

I wish you would have shown us your Christmas tree!

You are certainly on the scene when something interesting happens. All those reflectors make for quite a sensational shot. I'm surprised about all the school fires. . . .

Well done, both to the fireman and to you who rushed to the scene (with the camera). Anyway, there are some mad people around. Here there are containers full of rubbish- close to wooden houses- that some mad people put on fire. Not so many cars and schools...

Have a happy (and safe) new year!!

Les écoles sont souvent touchées par les violences urbaines (aussi une spécialité de la banlieue parisienne ;o(( ). Beau reflexe de photo-reporteur et ce qui compte c'est que personne ne soit blesse.
Une Joyeuse année 2010.

Gosh, Steffe, you should have been a photojournalist! Glad to hear no one got hurt and I hope the damage wasn't too bad either.

Wishing you and your family a peaceful and love-filled 2010.

Here is an update. It was an arson attack. Mikael Törnblom from the local police confirmed in SVD today that someone had first smashed a window and then set the room on fire. The police are hoping to get some footage from the surveillance cameras.

Excellent shot, even if the occasion is not a pleasant one.

Be careful and have a Happy New Year!

I don't know Steffe, cars burning outside your window, school burning down the road. You should just get a job as a local reporter. Then you'd get paid for this.

Happy New Year!
