The Tricycle Constructor

The Tricycle Constructor

I saw this unique tricycle in Jordbro. It disappeared down a tunnel so I followed suit, and that's how I met with Rifat and his son Mehmet. Rifat is from Turkey, but has lived in Sweden since 1996. He has his own auto repair business in Jordbro and lives nearby. And he has designed this patented tricycle. It is called an Arda Bike. It's unique, as it is powered by both pedals and hand cranks. Rifat hopes to have ten bikes ready for sale later this year. If you want one, be ready to pay around 30 000 SEK. Mehmet told me that his dad used to drive him to kindergarten on the bike, but that he is too big to sit on the extra seat now. Rifat told me about another idea he had that sounded interesting. He would like to be the first person to travel between Stockholm and Istanbul on a tricycle. Sounds like fun! I was invited to visit his shop, and have a look at the construction of the bikes, so it's possible that you will see more of this tricycle in the future.

That is an interesting bike. I see them here on our bike pathway or bike trail. Some are two wheels and some are three wheels and some are also powered by feet and hands.

Clever guy driving the bike and clever guy taking the photo! Unusual and fun tricycle! Wonder how long it would take to ride from Stockholm to Istanbul?!

Very nice bike, please visit the workshop for us, I'm really curious.
Good luck to Rifat if he tries the trip, I think it's gonna be hard but probably he can do it.

You have to admire him for trying, but I'd hate to ride on in traffic. I like the way you get people in your shots, I'm not so successful at that.

Must be a very creative gentleman with a number of skills. I like the concept. Good luck to him on his journey!

This is the first reclining bike/tricycle that ever looked comfortable to me. I think I could like it.

What an enterprising guy!

Certainly original but I fail to see what the advantage would be. (Except of course being original. Maybe that's it.) Anyhow, one never knows where bold inventions will take us so here's to enterprising people.

One advantage will be that every bike will be designed after the buyers wishes and that disabled people will be able to use it. Not sure how long that would take Leif, It's a long ride more than 2000 kilometres. Rifat told me that there are no Swedish tricycles and that he was hoping create a market and deliver a quality bike to a much better price than you would have to pay for an imported bike.

If it opens new possibilities for disabled people, that'd be great.

Stockholm-Istanbul on anything other than a train or plane doesn't sound like fun to me... but hey, each to their own!

Fun picture! The bike doesn't look very comfortable to me. I've seen a few similar ones around.

This trike is full of awesomeness. I'm totally impressed! Recumbent trike is always my favorite.
