Walking on Thin Ice

15C and some serious sunshine from a blue sky yesterday, so walking on the very thin ice that still covers the lower lake at Rudan might not be a very good idea. But you have to live dangerously every now and then.

Serpentinväg

Swedish word of the day. Serpentinväg. New hairpin turn at Vegastaden. The new pedestrian bridge crosses the railway line Nynäsbanan at the new commuter station that will open for traffic in April. There is only one entrance so if you live at the "wrong" end this is the path you will have to use to and from the new commuter station.

Before and After

The new commuter station at Vegastaden opens for traffic next Monday. Work started on it back in 2015 and I remember walking around here back then thinking this is going to take some time to finish. When the work on the new "city" is finished ten thousand people will live here so the station will probably be quite busy. I took the top two photos last Friday. The last to in May of 2015.

Brf Tindra

Location location location. That is the words used to sell Brf Tindra at Vegastaden. The yellow structure to the left is the new commuter station that opens for traffic next week. If you jump on the commuter to Stockholm from there you will be in Stockholm 20 minutes later. The apartment building are built by Ikano that also owns IKEA. Raoul Wallenbergskolan

Ten thousand people will live in Vegastaden once it is completed. A few thousand people have already moved in. There are construction going on everywhere. As you can imagine you would need a few schools for all the children in the area. This is one of them. Along Vega Allé near Nynäsvägen. The company behind the school take their inspiration from the man that gave the school it's name. Raoul Wallenberg, the humanitarian that disappeared in January 1945 while working in Hungary.

Noise barrier

Norrby Gärde in Handen. Famous for, not much really, but it has it's own runestone. Bit of a wetland, not used for anything at all for a very long time. Close to lake Drevviken, the highway to Stockholm and the huge Vegastaden project where 10 000 people will live so now it has it's own road and bike path, (since a few months). I snapped a panorama here a few years ago when the construction work had just started. Took these photos on Friday. This is a "jordvall", or berm used as a noise barrier. Bad for the planet

Flying is bad for the planet. But a good way to see the world in no time at all. Spotted this plane from Flygbra as I took the two photos for yesterdays post.

No More Birch Forest

Back when the highway, (Nynäsvägen), to Stockholm was built the municipality planted birches along what was supposed to be a green alleyway for pedestrians. For some reason the project was never finished. Later this part of Söderby in Handen was transformed to a shopping area that today houses ICA, Systembolaget and Biltema. One little birch forest was saved from the building plans and I can't remember how many photos I have taken there over the years. This past Winter the forest was levelled to make room for a bigger Biltema store. I have tagged a few photos from here with Söderby björkskog.

Beach Find

Two recent finds during my visit to Årsta Havsbad, my favorite beach earlier in the week. A dead gull and a seashell. Both photos taken with my Canon 60mm lens.

Jetty Remodeling

The wobbly jetty at Årsta Havsbad is still wobbly, but it is currently being remodelled. Parts of it was unsafe according to Svenska livräddningssällskapet, (the life saving society). After a bit of lobbying from the local samfällighet, (you might have to Google that), the Haninge municipality have decided to chip in with 750 000 SEK for that work. The dive tower that used to be here has been moved to another jetty closer to the military base.

Fuchs Lubricants Sweden AB

A few more photos from Fuchs Lubricants new plant currently under construction at Vitsåvägen in Västerhaninge. Looks like good progress, I showed you a few snaps from this construction site last month.

Crocus

Spring is on hold for the time being. It snowed today. Then it rained. The temperature still reached 5C.

That Old Tree

Crap weather all weekend. Gray skies with rain and snow falling off and on, so I decided to stay indoors and watch lot of Netflix, (After Life), and HBO, (The Good Fight). Before that, (on Wednesday), I made a quick stop at the old tree for my 555th photo of the Swedish Whitebeam.

Not so symmetrical

If you have too much free time on your hands here is how to spend some of it. Take a selfie with one eye open and the other eye closed. Preferably outdoors somewhere. Back home a few hours later open the photo in Photoshop. Copy the left side of your face and paste it so that you get a portrait made from that half of your not so symmetrical face. Then do the same with the right half of your face. Save both portraits and create a diptych from the portraits. Upload to the internet and wait for the applause or laughter.

Haningeterrassen

The never ending project that is Haningeterrassen continues. At the moment they are working on a few new apartment buildings and also on the underground bus terminal.

Nynäs Havsbad

I have a new,(ish),rule. Every time I take a walk along the picturesque Strandvägen in Nynäshamn I have to stop and take a few photos of the century old spa at Nynäs Havsbad, and here are two photos I took last weekend

Illustration

I'm guessing it will be a year or so before this illustration will become reality here at Parkstråket in Handen. The project is called Sjögläntan. Two hundred new apartments are currently under construction here.

Rocky Beach

The rocky beach at the Knappelskär peninsula in Nynäshamn. It will be a little longer before the bay fills up with yachts, sunbathers and kayakers. On my visit I counted around 50 people out walking.

The Gym

You can do a full workout routine if you stop at all the gym stations along the picturesque Strandvägen walk in Nynäshamn.

Spring strikes back

Most of the snow that fell last week is gone. Walking over the lawn on Sunday afternoon afternoon I could see quite a few crocuses in the afternoon sunshine. But it is still qiute cold.

Public Toilet

There are a few public toilets along the picturesque Strandvägen walk in Nynäshamn. Sadly it looks like someone decided to burn down this one over the weekend. The fire even made it into the local paper which I guess is good news as it means that nothing worse happened.

Foggy Day

The fog rolled this afternoon after last nights rain. Not too cold, a few degrees above zero. Stopped for a photo of the colorful row houses at Lillgården in Tungelsta. Read somewhere that they were up for a second architectural award.

Fettisdagsbulle

We ate six million Semla's in Sweden yesterday during Fettisdagen. Fat Tuesday. It is a seasonal bun,(not really), with many names. Fettisdagsbulle, semla, hetvägg. I only eat the traditional version but there are people out there,(no names), that create and enjoy new versions of the semla.

Finally

Been waiting for this since I snapped that Safety Respect photo in late October of last year. No idea why it took them five month to finish the job. A Thailand vacation maybe? That is my old school btw. Second and third grade student in that school.

Vinterkrokus

The back pain is back but I decided that I needed to go out and try to get a few macro images with my 60mm lens during the snowfall yesterday. So here are two winter flower photos that I somehow managed to snap without too much pain. Oh, and Swedish word of the day Vinterkrokus, Winter Crocus.

Marsväder

Swedish word of the day. March Weather. After a few fine Spring-like days in late February, with blue skies and warmish weather March started with the return of Winter as it started to snow this morning.

Spring Picnic

A scene from earlier in the week. I took a Spring like walk at the guest harbour in Nynäshamn. It was 10C from a blue sky and the warmest day of the year so far.
