Bummer of the day

Still a few degrees too cold for my liking. Out riding on the bike yesterday, I stopped at the old tree. And for the first time in 20 years I took a photo of the tree that you will never see, and I blame that on the cold weather. The most unfocused photo ever, so I deleted it the moment I realized what I had done after I came back home. I took this photo a few minutes after the tree photo without any problems, ice on rock in a stream.

Chunks of ice

The unusual winter weather continues. Two recent storms, a lot of rain and warmer weather melted away most of the snow. That was followed by more snow, because why not. I took this photo of broken-up ice on the Rocklösaån stream at Krigslida a few days ago while out on a bike ride.

Rule of Thirds

Out walking at the busy construction site that is Slussen in Stockholm. I had photographed a lot of buildings. Most of them as tricky panoramic images that I am yet to try and stitch together. I walked halfway over a pedestrian bridge that connects Södermalm with Riddarholmen and the old town. The water underneath is Söderström, part of Riddarfjärden. Still some ice left there and when I spotted the orange buoy I decided to take photo.

'Tis not the Season

While out walking along Kungsholms strandstig I spotted this nicely dumped Christmas tree out on the ice. There is actually a system for this at Djurgården where they tie a few Christmas trees together and lower them in the water for the fishes to play later in the year. It is called julgransvassar and is an old tradition that has become popular again in recent years. It creates a new ecosystem for the fish. But this photo here just shows how an idiot gets rid of his tree.

Pecking

I visited Sickla in Hammarby sjöstad a while back. I mostly photographed modern buildings and reflections. There is a place there called Lugnets terrass that I always try to visit when I am in the area. A wooden terrace down by Hammarby sjö. A great spot for people watching, especially during the warmer parts of the year. On this visit I was the only one on the terrace and the first photo I took was this one. Two birds out on the ice. One of them busy pecking, obviously there was something interesting under the ice.

Winter or Spring?

Whenever I visit the Rudan nature reserve I try to shoot a few photos from one of the jetties at the Lower Lake, and that is what I did yesterday after taking the top photo. The lake is still covered by a layer of ice, but it is not safe to walk over the ice now after the warmer temperatures from last week. The second photo is a panorama from nine photos. Cracked Ice

Interesting weather lately. Snow one day. Followed by a few days with warmer weather melting the snow. Then a couple of days with a lot of rain so that it was flooding all over. That was followed by a cold day, hence all the cracked ice here at a field at Stav in Tungelsta.

Swedish word of the day. Isbildning. Ice formation. Shot from a jetty at the Lower Lake at the Rudan natue reserve earlier in the week.

Walking on Thin Ice

15C and some serious sunshine from a blue sky yesterday, so walking on the very thin ice that still covers the lower lake at Rudan might not be a very good idea. But you have to live dangerously every now and then.

Friday the thirteenth

Still a thin layer of ice covering the Lower Lake at the Rudan nature reserve. One not so clever guy tried ice fishing on Friday the 13th. Didn't end well. But he did survive.

The Pier in February

The pier in February. The ice on the Lower Lake at the Rudan nature reserve in Handen is thick enough to walk on, and I spotted a few people doing just that. The pier lay in shadow because of the low Winter sun.

Time for a refreshing Winter dip?

With a more "normal" Winter the ice layer on the frozen upper lake at the Rudan nature reserve would have been much thicker. At the moment it is not safe to go ice skating on the lake, but I guess you could jump in for a winter dip if you wanted to. I decided to stay on dry land.

Ice

There's absolutely nothing to photograph anywhere but I still gave it a go. The temperature read 5C today so I dressed as it had said -20C before going on a very slow bike ride. A very thin layer of ice covers most of the Lower Lake at the Rudan nature reserve and this was the only photo of any interest that I managed to take.

Who wants to go skinny dipping?

Don't you just want to run out onto the pier and jump into the lake for a refreshing swim? Of course you do. Go for it!

Pipeline stuck in the ice

A bit odd. A pipleline stuck in the ice at the Upper Lake at the Rudan nature reserve.This is a popular place for a swim during the Summer. I took the photo standing at the sandy beach. A new fresh water pipeline runs through the lake, but I don't know if this plastic pipeline has anything to do with that. A few weeks ago the ice was thick enough for ice skating, but I wouldnt recommend anyone trying that today.
