Modern Day Headstone

IMG_6609 I stopped at the Österhaninge burial ground today. It is situated in a rural part of Haninge, around one kilometre away from the Medieval church. My goal today was to find a headstone for The Taphophile Tragics. And I found one. I think I would like a grave stone like this when the time comes. The man that rests here was called Bo-Göran Runsten. Runsten means Runestone, so it was a good choice for a headstone, to make it in the shape of a Viking era Runestone.

Unusual, but very fitting! And you are also a Viking?

We sure don't see any stones like this over here. It is an interesting one.

I have to agree with you...having something unusual like this makes a great headstone.

It's nice to see something other than the same old polished granite. This stone really means something.

I agree with Bob: polished granite can become boring after you have seen hundreds of them. This however, could never become boring.

What a great find for us, Steffe. I love the colour coordination, and the fact that living flowers are permitted in the cemetery. All the symbols around the border appear to be a variation of the christian cross. What though is the main symbol in the centre: graphic art or more meaningful.

I love the shape and roughness of the stone. Better go and write your preference in your will!!!

It looks like the Runic alphabet - does that sign translate?

I like it, it is different without being outrageous...

Correct hamilton. On the headstone in the runic alphabet it says here rests in God's peace Bo-Göran Runsten. Not sure about the main symbol, but the Vikings often used a snake symbol on their rune stones.

It's fantastic Steffens, so different and the main thing..personal to the man that lies below.

Unusual -- and so colorful, especially compared to what we usually see!
