Abandoned Fox Farm

The Abandoned Mink Farm

There's an abandoned fox and mink farm at Skogs Ekeby in Tungelsta. Back in 1925 a man called Erik Sigfrid Larsson arrived to Tungelsta from Floda. He was thirty years old and married. Larsson started one of Tungelsta's many plant nurseries. Five years later, in 1930 he started Ekbackens Rävfarm, (Oak Hill Fox Farm). The farm was abandoned many years ago and the sad remains can now be found in an oak forest. On my latest visit I noticed a funny sign saying that the recent acts of vandalism had been reported to the police! Erik's son Karl Erik still lives in a house nearby so I'm guessing he is responsible for the sign. My father Sten Harald Jansson bought a dog from Erik Sigfrid Larsson back in the 1940'. It was a rottweiler that my dad named Jack. He used to say that whenever Jack saw or heard Larsson's old car the dog would start to bark.

Some of these are so beautiful...particularly the ones with snow, but they are also so sad...particularly the cages. I'm glad this fox farming venture is over.

When the people leave, the forest reclaims it's space. Great post Steffe, and I especially like the old photo of your father and his dog. I have quite a collection of old family photos which I'll be sharing from time to time.

Jag tror att jag har förirrat mig dit under en orientering i skolan, då vi gick vilse (*host*). Det måste ha varit i mitten på 70-talet och den var övergiven redan då. Kan det verkligen stämma, eller är jag på fel ställe?

It's beautiful in it's own way, but these abandoned places are often very scary... Nice shot!

I know what you mean brattcat. Sadly you will still find a few open mink farms in Sweden.

Det är samma ställe scylla. Om du trycker på bilden och sufar vidare in på flickr kan du trycka på map till höger om bilderna för att se exakt var fotona är tagna.

Some buildings are better when old and worn out than when new and painted.

That is so sad, but I'm glad it's no longer in business.

Nature giveth and Nature taketh away.

Interesting building and story. It's sad to see such places fade away.

Love the story of the dog, quite wary of his old master and this old fox farm don't say much better about the guy.

It looks like you have some amazing forestry nearby. This is a great image - the run-down wooden house overgrown by the forest around it. Nicely composed too. It's great when there's a story behind an image like this.
