Full Moon

Full Moon
My first real test with the "you get what you pay for" crap lens. The Kelda 420-800mm manual focus. Taken with the 6D Canon at 800mm using a tripod of course. You don't have any control over the aperture and I shot this at ISO 100 at 1/50 sec. My tripod is not the best, it is a bit wobbly so I used the 10 second delay timer for this shot. It is a very inexpensive lens, it costed me less than a taxi ride to and from my mothers care facility!

Does the lens have a single, fixed f stop? That would be unusual. But the lens could have potential for espionage.

No, it starts at f/8.3 at 420mm and if you zoom to the maxumum the aperture is 16!

Is it better than using a good 300mm lens and cropping?

Probaby not if we are talking quality but you do get a little closer of course.

Excellent take on the moon, as far as I'm concerned.

Back in the old days of film, a photographer would take shots like this, rewind the film, and put it into a refrigerator. Then later when he wanted to compose a night shot with a moon, he would put the film back in the camera and re-expose the moon frame with the subject. Thus, came the expression "moons in the refrigerator". This is why I love digital.
