The house I live in is a little over a century old. Built by my great grandparents back in the day. The staircase to the second floor has a white wall-to-wall carpet that dates back a few decades. The carpet was well glued to the stairs, but it was also on it's last leg as it had started to fall apart here and there so earlier today I took this scrape and began removing the old carpet.

That tool looks like it's seen a lot of use too.

A fascinating old tool...perhaps there are more modern ones available to make your task easier?
Sounds like you have some hard work ahead of you. Before I moved, I was living in a 70 year old house. There is always something needing to be done with those older homes.
That's nice that you live in a house built by your great grandparents. Old homes were built to last. Good luck in ripping up the old carpet.
Good for you. It looks like hard and slow work. But, when the carpeting is replaced, it will bring the area alive.
I will of course use another tool for the sanding. Might snap a photo when that happens.
Never seen one of these. Sounds like hard work.
