That Old Tree

That Old Tree That Old Tree
Two photos of the old tree. The first one from yesterday. It was 26C and cloudy, nothing more to say about that one. Second photo is from last week, and here's how I described that photo an hour or so after shooting it: I'm alive! The thunderstorm of the Summer started just as I took this photo of the old tree. Took me a minute to walk back to the bike. During that time the sky lit up several times. I then jumped on the bike and tried pedalling for home, but it rained too hard so I stopped for a few minutes by the side of the road while it flashed right and left. I was actually afraid for a while. Managed to ride over to the commuter platform at Krigslida where I waited out the storm together with another cyclist. Good to know that the camera bag is water proof.

The tree stands out nicely against that sky in both instances.

It's no fun getting caught out in the rain.

Wow. That was an exciting ride. The old tree may have actually enjoyed the excitement. We had a similar storm roll through here yesterday and I'm really glad I wasn't out on the bike. Anyway, glad you and the camera are safe.

Lightning hit an old oak not far from the tree. It was burning (in the rain) when three guys, the owner and two neighbours used their garden hoses to save the tree. Must have been an interesting sight.

Must say---
This iconic tree in your blog photos is so lucky to have this meandering dirt road as a friend.

Looks like the old tree lost a few more branches.

Glad you are ok and also delighted that the old tree is still looking as magnificent as always. Looking forward to many many more images of it

I like the second one. It would look great in black and white.

I nearly missed the tree in all it's summer glory Steffe.. although your storm doesn't sound very summery! That would have been pretty scary, I must admit I don't like being out in the open when there's lightning flashing. Sounds like it was a real test for the camera bag :)
