Kribbe

Gone Shopping

When I take someones portrait these days I will often explain what it was about that person that made react. This is Kribbe. It was his jeans (and boots), that I noticed first. He told me that that he spends much of his money on clothing, so it wasn't all that surprising that I met him outside a shopping mall. Kribbe works at Sundab, his area is quality control. Many of their clients are pharmaceutical companies. His job also includes talking to international clients, so he is fluent in English, which apparently wasn't the case with all the clients, I'm not naming names (the French). On his free time Kribbe likes to party with his friends. He listens quite a lot to Djs. One of his favorites is deadmau5, who will be playing in Stockholm this summer.

Well done, Steffe. I like the way you turned all but the jeans to black and white. Unless, of course, everything was black and white to begin with, in which case I need to apologize to the young man.

Quality control you say Steffe, does he know he's got holes in his jeans!! Hahahaha!Only joking I know it's the 'coolest' thing ever to have holey clothes!!! Like Jack said, great effect with the B&W and splash of blue jeans!

Hehehe the fashion these days. I have a pair of torn jeans too. Would have liked to have torn them myself but hey shopping mall it is :)

I like the treatment on this one, Steffe. The isolation of color to the subject makes it more interesting. I try to do something similar when I used the soft, blurred, backgrounds.

I really admire your ability to get to know each person and describe them. I suppose it took a lot of courage to do the first ones that way. I remember reading about how you did it in the beginning. Found it fascinating.

And had you know done it, we would still be looking at a lot of behind shots. Most people take pictures of people as they are walking away. lol

I do shoot candids every now and then. But the street portraits are so much more rewarding. I have to stop myself a few times every day, as I see so many interesting people everywhere, and I don't want to overdo things. I did meet a guy last year with seriously torn jeans. He did that himself in school one day. You can see that portrait here.

How long do you talk to your subjects? Do you talk first and then shoot? Do you ask for permission to take their photo? (you've probably explained this a dozen times befor - sorry to make you repeat it.)
I like Kribbe's look . . . It's fun to imagine him in a very conservative job position and letting loose after work. My son (17) likes deadmous lots too. A concert in Sweden...tempting. A couple of years ago, he had a pair of torn jeans too...the price was $5 higher per tear over whole jeans.

It all depends Tash. Sometimes just two minutes, sometimes much longer. Obviously I ask for permission to take the photo and publish it online. Everyone gets my card with contact info and the URL to where they can see the photos. Normally I will ask the questions first, that is a good way for everyone involved to cool down a bit, as we can all get nervous in situations like this one.

It's a nick name. I didn't as for what, but Krister is a good guess. It was that style, the jeans and the shoes that made me ask him for a portrait.
