The Ice Fisher

The Ice Fisher

This is Einar. I met him out on the ice at the frozen Lower Lake Rudan in Handen. He is often here ice fishing during the winter season. He told me that the lake has been frozen for about one month now. He figured that the ice was around 15 cm thick. No fish luck for Einar, but just like angling, ice fishing is also a social thing, so Einar and the two other guys probably had fun talking about the nosy photographer after I had left on my bicycle in the cold.

I did not realise they did this in your neck of the woods. I have a low boredom threshold so no fishing for me, but I can understand why people do it.

No ice house? You had sense enough to leave!

I can't imagine if, for a fish, it will be worse to get caught or to be left in that very cold water.

Nosy photographer? Well, you do us great favors by bringing out interesting little stories from your part of the world. :) ... By the way, check out my reply to your recent comment in my blog, Steffe.

Not only interesting stories, but also great photographs, Steffe.

They probably though that you were odd to be out cycling in the cold while what they were doing was normal!

I hear you Paul, and I totally understand, I could never do this myself. but it is always fun to talk with different types of people. I don't think anyone has ever used a ice house here. It's a small lake and it's not very windy.

Thanks Zakton, that beer sounds inviting.

Ha, good point Pat.
