The Teenage Shopper

Karin

A Teenage Shopper

I spotted Karin as she was on her way to the mall in Handen. It was her leopard tights that made me look one extra time. Karin is a secondary school student at Fria Gymnasiet, a school that is owned by the teachers and staff. Any profit made by the school will go directly back to the students. Karin is on her third and last year at the school, and her program is preparatory for a higher education at university level. She has plans to travel the world after graduating next summer. She wants to visit Southeast Asia and Australia. I asked her if she had any fun hobbies. She named three. Hanging out with her friends, (very teenage like I guess), working out at the gym (S.A.T.S in Handen), and finally, her number one hobby. Shopping. So maybe it wasn't so surprising that I met her outside the mall. We decided to take the photos against a neutral background, the white wall of the cultural centre. Mid-shoot there was a bit of a drama as Karin's receipt from her latest purchase took off in the strong wind. Eventually she managed to retrieve it and I had a look to see what she had bought. It was a black fake fur, so now I know what she will be wearing the next time I see her!

Lovely young lady. It must take a lot of courage to wear those pants.

Hopefully, she is not shopping for shoes. It would take all day to put those boots on and off.

B Squared has a point here, but I am sure she could get around this. The tights ere really eyecatching.

I think she'll go far...lots of spunk, or just plain courage. I mean, look at those tights! Well, she's pretty cute, too!

First I thought it was a younger sister of Cecilie Skog
(A famous adventurer in Norway.)

Well, they are probably not related.

She looks cute, and I have to say that your portraits are always both interesting and very nice.

nice nice...
does she frequent the tanning salon or is there still a lot of sun out there?
to feed my curiosity; genereally, how many pics do you take when taking a portrait? and do you decide which one(s) you place on your blog, or does the "subject" have a saying in this as well?

Spot on Olivier, those eyes are beautiful.

I think you are right about that Abe.

I normally show the subject the photos on the spot. How many photos I take depends on time, which camera I have with me, and more.

On this day I used the cheap PowerShot which was running a bit low on batteries so I only took five snaps of Karin. She picked one of these photos and I choose the head shot.

I didn't ask Karin about her tan, but as I myself spend a lot of time in the sunshine, and I'm a bit paler than her at the moment my guess is that she has paid a visit or three to a tanning salon.

I agree with you on the likeness Gunn.

It's a tough job Irina, but I kinda enjoy it!

That's one fine portrait. The white background really makes your subject pop. May I make one suggestion? I gather you are pretty tall. Try lowering your camera (and yourself) to shoulder level. You might like the result.

I hear you Bob. I usually do that when I take portraits, but just didn't think about it on this occasion.
