The old stone bridge
This old stone bridge has seen a lot of traffic through the centuries. The road, Björklundsvägen is 800 meters long and very old. It was part of the old Nynäsvägen to Stockholm and dates back to the Viking era. The bridge can be found close to the Västerhaninge Parsonage Estate. The technique used for the construction is called kallmurning. That means that no cement or similar has been used. The bigger flat stones at the top weighs around 1,5 Metric tonnes each. Today the gravel road will take you to an old farm called Björklunda. From there you will have to travel by foot or bicycle. The path continues through an ancient grave field at the nature reserve Gullringskärret in Jordbro. From there the old road goes through rural Österhaninge past a few rune stones and a medieval church where it connects to other equally old roads.
Today is theme day at the Daily City Photo Blog. The theme for December is bridges. Have a look at some of the other partisipants by following the links below.

that is a great old bridge - Hyde DP is carrying permalinks to the bridge posts and will be updated at intervals until Dec 2nd.
great work was achieved long ago, nice.
Aren't these old stone bridges beautiful structures? The older they are the more character they take on! Great choice for Theme Day.
I love this bridge---it has character and history! Happy Theme Day!
This looks more like a tunnel to me, but perhaps I'm looking at the wrong object?!
wow, what a history this bridge has!
Happy Theme Day!
Ha. It looks like a tunnel because I decided to climb down to the stream and while doing that risked falling into the cold water!
That is an interesting post and the photo adds a lot of charm.
16 Ghosts on Bridge
Great story to a great old bridge captured under great danger!
Old bridges lead one to reflect on history. They seem so solid and could be a metaphor for the solid foundation our ancestors left us. I especially like your phrase "other equally old roads."
Good choice for today's theme.
A bridge not impressive but very pretty
This stone bridge blends in well with the nature landscape surrounding it. Fascinating historical background and the road must be very scenic.
As I said, it leads to a nature reserve, an ancient grave field and a part of Haninge which is rich with ancient remains, so I travel this old road on a weekly basis with my camera. Thanks for all your comments.
A stone bridge! How unique. I love this photo.

What a great bridge. Love the feeling in old stones and you feel it looking at your photograph.
This is a great post.
beautiful, and also enjoyed the story behind it. looking back through your posts, I adore the winning combination of lovely old buildings, bare trees and snow, like a fairytale land!
Ooooh that looks just like the kind of bridge a troll would be living under!
What a lovely old bridge. should I expect a fairy to pop out of it?
