Snöslask

Snöslask
Not my favorite word of the day at all. Snöslask. This is Södertäljevägen in Tungelsta. I live just down the road. I did not use my bicycle on this day, earlier this week.

Smedstugan

Autumn Colors Smedstugan
After a week in bed with the flu I have been out on the bike twice to document Autumn. First photo here shows the old road towards Fors. Second photo is a panorama made from four photos taken with the new zoom lens. It shows a cottage at Fors, sometimes refereed to as Smedstugan. It has an unusual roof design, unfortunately you can't see that detail on the panorama as the birch tree is in the way. There's another house just behind it, Gästgiveriet, where for many years a photographer lived. Her name was Sigrid Numan and it is thanks to her that there are lots of photos from this part of Haninge from the time around the second world war. Her ICA camera from 1926 has been donated to the local historical association and can be seen at Tingshuset in Västerhaninge. Sigrid's husband Ragnar, was a bookbinder and he worked from this building. Larger version for Lowell at flickr. More facts about Fors at Haninge.org here: Fors.

The Traffic Island Flower Bed

The Traffic Island Flower Bed
A big hit with the locals last Summer was this traffic island flower bed (Blomsterrefug), along gamla Nynäsvägen in Handen, filled with wildflowers. And here is this years version started to bloom this week. You will find Papaver, Moroccan toadflax, knapweeds and coneflowers in there. And possibly a photographer or two every now and then.

Roadside Work

Roadside Work
Construction of a big interchange at Vega in Handen, on Road 73 also known as Nynäsvägen, means a lot of work on nearby roads, like here at Söderbyleden/Torfastleden. A new roundabout is being constructed, as well as a walkway/bike-lane across the big open field.

Allévägen

Allévägen
If you follow this blog you have probably seen this road before. This is Allévägen. The trees were planted by the owner of the Hammar Estate two centuries ago. Some of the trees have been replaced but it looks good in mid-Spring don't you think? You will find the estate where the road turns.

Icy Road

Icy Road
I use this road on a daily basis (yes, it's that same road again Grace), and I have biked here many times when it has been snowy and icy, but as the Winter tires I bought recently didn't fit my Steel Horse, my bike has been parked for a while now. I told the guy that you can see here that he was the tough biker of the day, and he said something I couldn't hear. I took this earlier in the week and it has been a few warm day since so I will try to get out with the bike now. And I will bring the camera!

Winter Road

Winter Road
It started to snow yesterday morning. Everything turned white in no time at all. It was still snowing when I walked down this snow covered road at Lida in Tungelsta one hour later. You can't see it here of course but this road got a thick new layer of asphalt just a few days before Christmas.

On the road

Autumn Road
If you want to take a longish bike ride from Stockholm to Nynäshamn, and live to tell the story that is easy these days. Road 73 between Västerhaninge and Nynäshamn (40km or so), used to be a very dangerous road for everyone that used it. But since the completion of the new road the old road is only used by locals, a few delivery vehicles and cyclists. You will ride through many interesting places where you can stop at old castles, ruins, nature reserves, and much more. If you ride from the port town of Nynäshamn, this is near the end of the road, at Berga in Västerhaninge.

Get A Grip

Get A Grip
Road sand at Mulstavägen at the Välsta horse farm. The road climbs here. A few winters ago I came down the road on my bicycle, and it was ice everywhere. Managed to just avoid a head-on collision with a truck. Today the road looked a bit safer.

Heading Towards Winter

Heading Towards Winter
Took a promenade to Välsta. The feeling was that I was walking into winter. And that is exactly what I was doing.

The Winding Road

The New Road The new road between Hammarbergsvägen and Stav in Tungelsta. It would be interesting to do a traffic count here because there's not much traffic here at all. The road opened for traffic when the bridge crossing the railroad at the commuter station was finished last year. I like how they have gone with the winding road here instead of just a straight road across the fields.

Winter Road

Winter Road

We had one warm day this last weekend. And a clear blue sky. Some of the snow started to melt away. Then we had a cold night, and this morning it was ice everywhere. On the roads. On the sidewalks and pretty much everywhere else. If I feel like it I might try and shoot some ice scenes today. This photo shows the tree lined avenue that leads up to the 700 year old Nödesta farm.

Winter Road

Winter Road

In a few months time I will stop here again for a spring version. This is the road I usually walk down once a week when I am heading for the old tree. To get there you turn right up where the fence turns to the right. This photo is a couple of weeks old, I have been going back and forth between the bed and the bathroom for the last 24 hours or so.

Lines and Curves

The Uphill Road

If you are a keen cyclist and live in Haninge you will recognise this. It's the steep climb along Dalarövägen at Åva. I shot this last week when I visited the old farm at Högsta where I photographed the collapsed barn. Oh, and before you ask it's not tire tracks on the road it's the shadows from the power lines. To see a color version use the Time Machine.

Autumn Avenue

Autumn Road

Sometimes it's good to be at the right place at the right time. You have seen it here before. It's one of the avenues that Frans G Upmark planted after he built the Hammar Estate 200 years ago. This was the scene on Thursday. The sun was shining when suddenly the sky turned very dark blue, and you knew that a storm was quickly approaching. It started to rain a couple of minutes after I took this photo, and as I arrived home I could hear thunder not far away. I like how the rowan tree with it's red berries adds some extra color to this my first real autumn photo of the year. For Skywatch Friday.

Tree Lined Avenue

Tree Lined Avenue
Vanishing...

This tree lined avenue is called Allévägen. A straight that runs through Lida. My family once owned the land to the left. My great grandfather was a farmer and this was his land. Many years later my aunt and her family bought a house on the other side of the road. Three month ago I took a winter photo here and today when the trees are turning green it was time for an update. I prefer the spring version...

Overtaking Accident

Overtaking Accident

Overtaking Accident

Overtaking accident at Tungelstavägen this afternoon. The yellow car (with a woman and a couple of kids in it) was overtaking another car. The driver then had to make a sudden swerve not to collide with a meeting car and as a result drove straight into the road pole. I talked to a cyclist who himself had been overtaken by the woman in the yellow car so this must have happened just a few seconds before I came around the corner. Luckily no one looked to have been hurt.

Streetlights in a row

Streetlights (by Steffe)

A straight stretch. This is Nederstaleden in Västerhaninge. I used to jog here many years ago. It always felt that the road would never turn. Now I take photos, much easier. This is shot just after lunch. It gets dark very early this time of the year. To the left is the railroad and to the right you can see the lights above the walkway. The straight ends up at the commuter station and mall.

It only took 25 years...

Todays photo really should have been taken 25 years ago. That is for how long the construction of this road has been delayed. Many people have lost their life's on the dangerous Road 73 over the last decades. Now finally they are preparing for the new road between Fors in Västerhaninge and down to the port town of Nynäshamn. This photo is part of a zooming sequence and the other photos can be seen in my Zooming in set.
See where the new road will go. [?]
