Gingerbread House Competition

No. 6

No. 5

No. 3

This is what you can see on a shelf above the meat counter at my local grocery store in Tungelsta. An ongoing Gingerbread House competition just in time for Christmas. School kids (wannabe architects), from the Tungelsta School competing. I picked my three faves. They are all way cooler than my try a few years back anyway :-)

At the Grocery Store

I got an odd feeling today as I walked around in my local coop konsum grocery store in Tungelsta. I can't put my finger on it, but the employees looked a bit different. The woman at the meat counter scared me away so I didn't get any minced meat.

Smiley Halloween

As I then looked for some pasta sauce, I ran into the manager, Helen Andersson, who I at first didn't recognise. Earlier this year she was voted coop franchisor of the year.

Halloween Helen

Then I had to look more closely at the check-out girl, because she too looked a bit different.

The Checkout Witch

In the end I probably came home with a few missing groceries but I guess I could always try again tomorrow!

My Corner Shop

This is my corner shop in Tungelsta. Today a Coop Konsum franchise run by Helen Andersson. It's only a few hundred meters from where I live. And it's the only grocery store in Tungelsta. Back in 1909 the first cooperative store in Tungelsta was opened by my great grandfather Johan Fredrik Jansson and seven of his colleagues (local gardeners), and the store was built in a shed at Bergdalen next to his greenhouses! In 1913, a new store was built across the road. Back then there was no car parking but there was a place where you could leave your horse while shopping! The first reported burglary took place in 1919, and you could read about it in the national morning paper. No money was stolen, but the burglars got away with clothing and coupons. In 1929 a bigger store was built close to the railway station. That building is today a restaurant and was also the post office for many years, after the current grocery store was built next to it. I shop here a few times every week. In front of the store there's a statue of famous local writer Ivar-LO Johansson, and also a relief showing some of his work. Today is theme day, below are links to the other participants:

Just after sunset

Glowing Greenhouse

In November it gets really dark in Sweden. Today sun up was at 07:18. Sun down this afternoos at 15:46. It's not my favorite time of the year. But you can get some great photo opportunities. Had you lived in Tungelsta say 30 years ago this would have been a very familiar view. A glowing greenhouse. Today there are only 11 greenhouse businesses left. This is Blomorado. Shot half an hour after sunset. The poinsettia plants needs all the light they can get.

A Bergdalen Sunset

A Bergdalen Sunset

November is a good month for Bergdalen sunsets. Took this from the stairs. The greenhouse belongs to blomorado and is filled with poinsettia plants.
