Tingshuset

This is "Sotholms Härads Tingshus" in Västerhaninge. Built between 1731 and 1734. Then a pub, (until 1844,) and then it served as the district court until 1916. It has also been used as a post office, shop, and as a private residence. Today used as a museum, library, and meeting place for the local historical association Haninge Hembysgille. Day 46 in my project 100 Days Of Darkness.

Clothes drying on the clothesline

Washing clothes a century ago was really hard work, more than just pushing a few buttons on a modern washing machine. In my neck of the woods in Haninge, just south of the Swedish Capitol, laundry was big business back then. Earlier in the week I visited the local historical society, (free coffee and cake). Haninge hembygdsgille at Tingshuset in Västerhaninge where they had an open house. This old time clothesline was used to promote a new book about laundry back in the good old days. Try doing this with one hand!

The local history association in Haninge had a thing today at the old alehouse in Västerhaninge. You could try this and that like using a traditional wooden scythe. This guy, Karl-Erik Eriksson makes baskets. Hes very good, I have seen him in action before. He told me that it was easy, and that he took it up after his father in law, who was a master at basketry despite only having one arm!
