The Birch Forest

Two photos from my latest visit to the Woodland Cemetery at Enskede. It was a few degrees warm, and the snow was slowly melting away. Probably all gone by now. These newly planted trees replaced an earlier forest. If you walk through it from here, you will soon find yourself on the 888-meter-long path that will take you from the Meditation Hill (second photo), down to one of the big chapels. As you walk down the path, the trees take over more and more, and it gets a little darker. All thought out by the two young architects a century ago.

The red bird boxes

I took a walk in Christina's birch forest at Välsta earlier in the week. I haven't counted them all but the latest two bird boxes had numbers on them. 58 and 59. Not all are for birds, some of the smaller ones are made for wasps, or maybe wild bees, something I found out while walking a little too close.

When I see birches bend to left and right...

The Birch

Took a walk in a birch forest yesterday. in Handen. Came home with enough photos, taken with my new Chinese 85mm lens to make a collage, so that's what I did.

Birch Forest

Nice with all the snow gone. But the weather isn't very photography friendly. Dark and rainy today. This is a little birch forest at Österport near Söderby in Handen. It will be history soon when the developers move in with their machines to build a shopping complex here. If you understand the local lingo you can read more about those plans here.

The Red Nestbox

This was the scene in the little birch forest near the old Söderby Gård in Handen earlier in the week. It was a big hit on flickr, generated 13 000 views in just a day.

Winter Birch Trees

From a recent walk in a birch forest at Välsta in Tungelsta. We got some more snow over night, might be time to find that old snow shovel.

Birch Forest

Took a walk in a birch forest at Välsta in Tungelsta this afternoon. Didn't spot, or scare away any wildlife this time. When I walked here back in May I was greeted by a bunch of horses. You can see a photo of that if you press here.

Autumn Path

This is how the narrow birch path at Söderby Gård in Handen looks today. The trees were planted back when the motorway to Stockholm, Road 73 was being constructed. It was meant to be a long walkway along the road, but the plans were scrapped for some reason, and this is all there is here today. It is used as a short-cut between Vega and Söderby. Although a while back when I was out shooting with my friend Jim, who first pointed out this narrow path for me, we saw a weird person running over the motorway, he made it but it was a close call. Autumn Forest

I took a walk in a forest at Välsta in Tungelsta yesterday. Before the rain. Autumn colors all around. The fence to the right is because of the horses that you would normally find here.

Going Green

Everything is turning green again. We have a few Summer days at the moment, and that is all that Mother Nature needs. These silver birches grows at Söderby in Handen.

Another grey day

No sign of the sun lately. Everything is grey and dark. This is a little birch forest in Handen next to the Slätmossen nature park, you don't see too many people here, just the odd dog owner and nutty photographer.

It's been a dry summer...

...so far, and some of the birch tree leaves have already turned yellow. I found these birches next to the old execution rock in Jordbro.

Festival of the Equinox

One of the more poetic words in Swedish, and one of my favorites is Vårdagjämningen. Or in English, the spring equinox. If you have survived another long,dark,snowy, and cold Swedish Winter, Spring is something you long for. We got the first snow fall of the season in late November. Since that day we have had snow on the ground. That is more than 110 days. That is a long time. Last week we suddenly had a few warm days and I was hoping that Spring would arrive. Sadly that didn't happen. The cold spell is back and now in combination with three days of snow fall. This photo is from a couple of days ago. It is the narrow birch alley at Söderby in Handen.
