The Joy of Winter Cycling?

The Joy of Winter Cycling?

Arriving home after a winter bike ride my jeans will often be were icy, snowy and frozen, and this is why. I took this photo after my meeting with Emmy, the world class mtb racer. She had a look at my bike, laughed and said that I would probably have to clean my bike chain from all the rust now.

This makes me cold just to look at it. Amazing. that you would ride in such weather.

Looks good as long it is not icy.

You make me feel like a wimp. My bike stays in the barn if the temps are below 40F/6C.

Guess she didn't get very far with the bike!

This counts as joy? Uhh, OK.

Did this happen on the ride? Or when you had your bike parked outside? In the winter, I try to keep my bike parked inside as much as possible to keep the parts in good working order. But I've also got a folding bike, so it's a lot easier.

Happened during the ride that day. And the day after, and today.

If you are talking about Emmy Halcyon she was skiing. The photo shows my bike.

That's a very nice slice of a winter day. But is it dangerous to ride a bicycle in such weather? Poor braking, tires slipping in the snow and so forth.

That depends on a few things. The roads are snow free and it would be easy to bike there, but if you do the traffic can be a bit too much for a poor cyclist. And depending on the temperature the road can of course be very icy. The walkways and bike paths have more snow on them and that is why my bike looks like this. But they are generally safer as there are no cars there. I don't have any winter tires, (although that might be a good idea), but I haven't had any accident so far.

Gosh and surprised Steffe that you have not had an accident with conditions like that. Great shot and continue to cycle safely.

And not just your chain. Of course, she could have been pulling your chain, but I don't think so. Get out the W40!
