A Prisoner of Winter

A Prisoner of Winter

Out on a winter promenade yesterday I spotted my friend and former class mate Åke up on the roof of his house at Fornminnesvägen in Tungelsta. He was busy working out. Shovelling snow is a good way to stay fit, and way cheaper than going to the gym! I think it's possible that I have seen too many Hollywood movies lately, because as soon as I noticed Åke's outfit the phrase orange jumpsuit came to mind, hence the title. If you are curious about how the house looks press here.

I have lived a few places in the USA where I had to shovel the snow off the driveway. I never had to shovel the roof, however. That looks dangerous.

We have photos of Sweden posted this week on our www.VivalaVoyage.com travel photo site.

We thought of our long days in Sweden in June several years ago when we were in Torres del Paine National Park near the southern tip of Chile for Christmas, returning today. The sun did not set until after 10:00 pm and it did not get dark until after 11:00 pm. It started to get light by about 5:00 am.

I like that title...
Aren't we all... Even in the tropics, with all the rain and floods... and cleaning after that.

That's a job, I often wondered about that. So yes you're winter is much more severe than ours, but it's been cold here too, I had to wear a jacket the other day :)

tres bon titre ;) je pense en effet qu'avec toute la neige qui tombe, il doit y avoir des gens qui restent bloquer chez eux

Our snow has now gone, but I cannot think it ever gets so bad you would have to clear the roof!
Good news about the eye Steffe.

I really feel for you T, that sounds horrible!

Last winter a few hundred roofs collapsed in Sweden because of all the snow...

I will check out your Sweden photos Dave.

Try Google News Olivier, and search for Bornholm, Denmark.

From where I am typing this Paul I can see a roof that is covered with half a meter of snow. It's a school gymnasium. Last year it took the workers one week to remove the snow. I will put the clock on them this year...

I wish someone would do that on our high-pitched roof for us because we have a dangerous ice dam now. Ugly winter! You always make it look so lovely in your photos, but I know better!! It's a huge pain after all that lovely stuff falls and sticks around for months!!

I can't even image a place like that. "Like a prisioner" of the weather. But I hope get know a place like that.

Ah, yes! The ubiquitous Orange Jumpsuit!
Perhaps he felt imprisoned by the snow.

After I saw what an inch of snow did here, almost paralyzing our region for a couple of days, I understand much better how you have to be used to this up there!

What a great shot. Not something we see here even though it should with our flat roofs.
