Södermalmstorg

Södermalmstorg Södermalmstorg Self portraits What are you dreaming about? Question mark A favorite bench Documenting the boyfriend Löfbergs Lila
Since the new square Södermalmstorg opened at Slussen in early June I have been there many times with my mirrorless Canon, mostly because it is on my usual route. But I also enjoy the views and it is a good spot for people watching. And on my way home I will always sit down on one of the many benches here and drink my home-made smoothy, before the long ride home. There's a coffee place in front of one of the two glass buildings here. Run by Kollektivet Livet, they arrange happenings at several different places all the time. Looks like I missed out on a self portrait thing here.

Ten recent street photos

Bride & Groom Tripod Man Strawberry adventure Pressbyrån Rålambshovsparken Lunchtime Mot mörkare tider Mansplaining M/S Gällnö Katarinahissen
Time for a few recent street photos. Bride and Groom ear the Royal Palace, trying to find a good photography spot. Tripod guy at the new square Södermalmstorh taking photos of Kornhamnstorg and Skeppsbrokajen in the old town. Two girls at Östra station, waiting for their train, looks like they have bought some strawberries. A blonde woman at Birger Jarlsgatan, a very posh area of Stockholm. Sunbathers at Rålambshovsparken on Kungsholmen. A family eating their lunch sitting on a bench outside an H&M store at Klarabergsgatan. Two cyclists at a stop light at Nybroplan. I took the same way. A mansplainer telling his girl how the world really works. Look over there, says the boss in a family standing on the stairs at Vattentorget. She is pointing towards the new square where Tripod Man was earlier. People waiting to board a ferry to Waxholm from Strömkajen. We finish with a family taking the Katarina Elevator down to Slussen after looking at the great views from up there.

The Citadel

Kastellet
I walked up to the citadel again. For a new photo, I showed you a photo of it around two years ago. Known as Kastellet in Swedish. On an island named after it, Kastellholmen. You get there by another island called Skeppsholmen. The red brick building was designed by a famous architect back in the day. Fredrik Blom. It dates back to 1848 and replaced an older citadel that was destroyed in an explosion. The Swedish flag is hoisted and lowered here every day since around 1660. Today if you see the flag there during the day it means that Sweden as a country is at peace, which we have been since 1814 btw.

Ten Summer Collages

Twelve recent snaps Twelve recent photos Twelve recent photos Twelve recent snaps Sixteen recent images Twelve recent images A Midsummer's Day Collage Twelve recent snaps Hammarbybacken collage Twelve Summer Snaps
A trick I often use when out shooting in and around Stockholm is to take photos that I know that I will use in a collage. It works as a good reminder to me about what I was doing and seeing on that particular day. So here are ten such collages from this Summer. A lot of street photos of course as that is what I enjoy most when it comes to photography. Walks through the old town, Norrmalm, That ski hill and more.

Danvikskanalen

Danvikskanalen
After a short visit to Nacka I pedalled back into Stockholm, riding over the Danvik drawbridge, and stopping for a photo of the Danvik canal. To the left the cliff where two people are sitting, a popular climbing area. A motorboat heading our way and in the background Hammarby sjöstad with Södra Hammarbyhamnen to the left, and Norra Hammarbyhamnen to the right. And in the background a few buildings that I have showed you before, including the Globe Arena.

Wenner-Gren Center

Wenner-Gren Center Wenner-Gren Center
This is the Wenner-Gren Center at Sveaplan in Stockholm. A 25-story steel building, currently under renovation by Fabege. Nice to see the old advertising from Kellogg's Cornflakes and Kungsörnen coming to light as workers remove the old facade. The murals date back to 1962 when the building was constructed. A coup back in the day from the builder Axel Wenner-Gren as the murals had not been approved by the City. The architects back in the day were Sune Lindström and Alf Bydén from Vattenbyggnadsbyrån AB. I read in a recent news article that the people from Kungsörnen seemed happy about the old ads, I buy their products almost every week. And for good measure I have added a second photo where you can see the original curtain wall facade. The glass in three different colors came from Belgium. Oh, and if you look closely you can see a worker on the scaffolding.

A classic facade

Sveavägen 112
Across the street from Stockholm Public Library at Sveavägen. An apartment building from 1886. The architect was most likely G Sällström.

My bad!

My bad
This was embarrassing. I had been on the bike for two hours. Add a couple of promenades, with camera. It was a warm morning, so I needed a rest. I stopped at Vasaparken. Sat down on a bench. Drank my smoothie. Took a few photos of people in the park. Jumped on the bike and pedalled away. Heard screaming. Stopped. Turned around. Realized they were screaming at me. Because I had left the camera bag on the bench. So thanks for the screaming, people at the park.

Father&Son

Father & Son Berns Salonger
Another visit to the cemetery in Solna. Norra Begravningsplatsen. To the left, Heinrich Berns. He had Berns Salong built back in the 1860s. Thirty years later, his son, Hugo, to the right here, changed the name to Berns Salonger as he owned two venues at that time. Berns Salonger is still there today at Berzelii park in Stockholm. I have spent many nights there, although that was a few decades ago now. So for good measure here is a photo of said establishment photographed a while back.

Delivery Trucks

Västerlånggatan Sallys Plåtslagaren Ben&Jerry's Pre Zero
Traffic in the Old Town is heavily restricted, with motor vehicle access prohibited between 11:00 AM and 6:00 AM daily, so on a recent early morning visit last week I decided to take a few photos of the delivery trucks. All photos taken while walking along Västerlånggatan.

Cows in a pasture

Cows in a pasture
On my bike rides to Stockholm, I often ride past this pasture at Lännaviken in Huddinge. The cows have a big area mostly for themselves here. But last Summer they were accompanied by a group of sheep. You can walk in if you feel like it, and I often see people wandering around here when the cows are back at their barn. You have to be careful where you put your feet though as the pasture goes all the way down to the Drevviken lake.

Mynttorget

Mynttorget
Mynttorget. Ledamotshuset. A Government building in the old town. This part of the building with the columns dates back around 400 years. The rest of the building have been renovated a number of times, since. This is the same square where Greta Thunberg used to protest every Friday for a number of years btw.

The Aliens are here
And they are watching us from the sky. But chances are good that we will scare them away. Because, well, just look at us.

Squares

Squares
After taking yesterday's photo, I continued my walk along Drottninggatan. A few blocks closer to Sergels torg where I had parked my bike, I noticed another photo opportunity. So I stopped and took this abstract shot. The family behind me also stopped for a look as I lifted the camera, but I don't think they understood why I took the photos.

Thirsty?

Thirsty?
It has been a very warm and dry July, so far, in my area. Top temperature 29C. Which is hot for Stockholm at least. We might have had a tropical night for the first time this Summer yesterday. My bike ride yesterday on one of my old bikes was a long one. Maybe 80 km. And I also climbed a few hills, because why not. So I drank a lot. Mostly water, I have two or sometimes three bottles with me. And also a thermos with my home-made smoothie so no need to buy a cold drink like the one in this photo. But it is a good spot, along the busiest pedestrian street in Sweden, Drottninggatan.

Street art classic

Rådjursmannen
The street artist behind this work is known as Rådjursmannan. Another name is Klisterpeter. Real name Peter Baranowski. His roe deer can be seen all over Stockholm, and I have photographed them many times and probably shown one or two here on the blog. The big ones, like this one in the old town, on pretty much every building site fence. There are also smaller ones that you can usually spot on the backside of traffic signs. The design of the roe deer changes every now and then. He has been doing this for thirty years, which is kinda impressive. Some more facts about him here, but I think you will have to use Google Translate to read it.

Hen party

Hen party
I spotted this happy group while walking across the Hötorget square a couple of warm days ago. They where out on a möhippa, as we call a hen party over here.
