The Rose of England

The Rose of England
This took me back a few years. I was never a big fan of Rockpile, or Nick Lowe, but back in the 1980s my favorite pop culture writer was Mats Olsson. He worked for Expressen back then and still does. Anyway, he lived in New York and wrote about sport, music and his life in the big apple and I used to read him while on the bus or train. He was a huge fan of Nick and Rockpile, and he often mentioned them in his writings. I took this photo at the weekly flea market, one or two more to come.

At the market

Prints
I visited the weekly flea market at Hötorget last Sunday. Nice day for it. Lots of locals, many visiting tourists. Quite a few familiar faces. I am currently without broadband so I can't post from Flickr the way I normally do. Not my fault either, hopefully sorted today although I don't think that will happen. This woman was shopping for prints btw

At the flea market

Another visit to the weekly flea market at Hötorget. Not as crowded during the Winter, but still a good turnout. I did not stay as long as I would have had it been Summer. But I think I got an okay mix of photos here.

Another Sunday at the flea market at Hötorget. Warm and sunny. Quite a few tourists from all over the world shopping for a bargain. I recognized a few people as I am here quite often. But no sign of the usual photographers this time around. Here are the first eleven photos I took.

The Kiss

The Kiss
Funny how things work. Two weeks ago, I read a long thread online somewhere about artworks that inspired other artists. And I just happened to rewatch Shutter Island that same week. There is a scene in that movie that references this painting. Gustav Klimt's The Kiss. And then last Sunday I visited the weekly flea market at Hötorget and the first thing I noticed was a print of that painting! So I guess I should have bought it. But cycling 35 km with it sounded a little too hard.

Flea market in late March

I had decided to visit the weekly flea market last Sunday. So I dressed for Winter and jumped on the bike for the 90-minute bike ride, one way. I regretted my decision after 3 kilometers as it was bitterly cold. But you can't give up, so I pedaled on. Here are some of the photos I took with the mirrorless Canon. It was a short visit. Normally I would have visited a few more places, but because of the cold weather, I decided that enough was enough and headed for home. I will remember this ice-cold bike ride for a long time.

A late February visit to the weekly flea market at Hötorget in Stockholm. Great to be back there again. A bit colder this time of the year, and not as many tourists, but quite a few locals to photograph as you can see.
