Uphill climb

I walked up the Hammarbybacken ski hill, again. Because of the views over Stockholm and the surrounding areas. Most of the artificial and natural snow gone now. The man-made hill is very popular with super-fit runners. I spotted this guy three times during my visit.

Monochrome Monday

The forecast promised rain in the early afternoon, and they were right. I biked home in the rain, but before that I managed to walk up the Hammarbybacken ski hill again. This bench on the top of the hill is a favorite and I like all the gray tones here. If I had a say I would place another similar bench here facing the forest that you can see here.

I walked up to the top of the ski hill Hammarbybacken again. Decided to take at least one snap that would work as a fake tilt-shift photo, and this is it. Ongoing construction of a colorful apartment building at Sickla in Nacka.

Hammarbybacken

Guess what? I walked up that ski hill again. Hammarbybacken. Came back down with way too many photos, as is the rule. The first photo here shows a soccer pitch at Hammarbyhöjden. Although we would call it a "fotbollsplan". Or an "idrottsplats" I took that shot before walking up to the highest point of the artificial hill. It was a very fine May day. Lots of people out walking. And quite a few hiking straight up, which you can see in the second photo, instead of using the path which you can see in the third and last photo. Both ways to reach the top can be quite hard, but also a very good workout. And there are more ways to get up and down, I often walk down using the new stairs as I always park my bike near the entrance.

Look at the views!

A second batch of photos from my latest walk up to the top of the Hammarbybacken ski hill, and then down again, using the new stairs. We start with a panorama over Lake Sickla. There are a number of benches on the hill where you can sit down for a bit and take in all the different views. The second shot looks at Södra Hammarbyhamnen and across the water Norra Hammarbyhamnen, both at Hammarby sjöstad. The a panorama with the two sport venues, the globe arena and 3Arena. Then some Spring colors looking towards Björkhagen and an apartment building from the 1950s. I sat down on the comfy wooden bench that faces the wrong way if you ask me, although the skiers using it during the Winter would probably disagree. Then another Sickla panorama, because why not. More benches, this time with tables. The blue apartment building dates back to when the suburbs were built and with them the metro, which we call Tunnelbanan. There are three man-made hills at Högdalen. They date back to the 1950s. There used to be alpine skiing there up until the late 1970s. Today popular with skateboarders and Frisbee golf enthusiasts. Next some Spring yellow as we look towards Södermalm. The second last photo shows apartment building at the Danvik rock. See you tomorrow!

Looking at the views again

After a week with miserable weather, the sun finally came out again, and we had a day with a blue sky. Still way too cold for my liking as I once again made my way up the man made ski hill Hammabybacken for a look at the views towards Södermalm, Sickla and Hammarbyhöjden. I was dressed for Winter, more or less. Not that many people around on this visit, but I did meet a few people. The guy in the first photo walked up the same way I did next to the slalom hill. On the second and third photo, we see Hammarby sjöstad with the Sofia church at Vita Bergen as a backdrop. Next the Sickla lake at Nacka. Followed by Södra Hammarbyhamnen with a nice view of Stockholm in the background. The yellow apartment buildings sit on the top of another hill with good views over the city. It is known as Henriksdalshöjden. Then an architectural gem at Hammarbyhöjden, designed by Gert Wingårdh. Still some artificial snow left on the ski hill, as you can see. A few people photos from the Hammarbybacken ski hill. The FIS World Cup skiers have competed here. That was back in 2016 when we saw paralell slalom here.

A bench with a view

On one of those warm early Spring/Late Winter days we had a while back, I decided to walk up the Hammarbybacken ski hill again. Like I did on my previous visit two weeks earlier, I took the stairs up instead of going round the hill up the path. The reason for that was that there were some snow left here and there. I am still going through the photos I took, but here are two snaps from the top of the hill. The girl spotted me as soon as I lifted the camera. If you look closely on the second photo, you can see the Skyway at the top of the Globe Arena at Johanneshov. Tourists pay good money, 180SEK, to ride up there for a look at the view over Stockholm. Walking up the ski hill, like I did for the same reason, is free.

Sporting venues

I still have a few photos to show you from my hike up to the top of the ski hill, Hammarbybacken. And I have actually been up there again, but here are two photos from my previous hike. It is the same view, but I stopped several times on my way up for photos, because why not. They show two sport venues at Johanneshov. The Tele2 Arena is used for football and concerts. Its original name was Stockholmsarenan. The Stockholm Arena, but as sponsors are willing to pay for a name stadium these days, it got a new name. But, just weeks from now, they will change that name to 3Arena. You might remember that I took a night photo a few days ago of the 3 Headquarter building, just across the road from the sport venues. The other arena is Globen. Built back in the late 1980s. But it also changed its name not too long ago, but for a completely different reason. It is today known as Avicii Arena. After the late Tim Bergling.

Duggregnet

Three photos taken while making my way up the Hammarbybacken hill. Focusing on the white apartment building. Located in a suburb called Björkhagen. The building is called Duggregnet. Designed by the Swedish/ Hungarian architect Georg Varhelyi. Built in 1957.

Taklampan

Two photos taken as I made my way up to the top of Hammarbybacken. Showing two new apartment buildings at Finn Malmgrens väg at Hammarbyhöjden. The project is called taklampan. There are 64 climate smart apartments here. Built with ThermoWood. The architect firm was Wingårdhs. Very close to Stockholm and equally close to nature.

Taking a moment

I only met a few people on my way up to the top of Hammarbybacken. Two pensioners on their way down. Two people running up the hill, very impressive, and then a total of four people on the top. Three friends from up North that were enjoying the view while chatting away, and this young guy sitting down thinking about life and all that.

Hillside bench

On a glorious Autumn day last week I decided to walk up to the top of Hammarbybacken. The hill used to be 50 meters high, but after the construction of Hammarby sjöstad it is now closer to 100 meters high. The views are spectacular. This is a popular slalom hill during the Winter months. This bench looked very inviting after the steep climb but I didn't try it. Still working my way through all the photos I took, and eventually I will show you all of them.
