Timmerknut

Notching
Old log building meters from the lake at Rudan in Handen. Today this is a popular nature reserve, just half a century ago there was still a working farm here and some of the old buildings are still standing. If you look at yesterdays post you can see the building behind the bench.

The Poseidon Building

Poseidonhuset
More testing of the Viltrox C-AF 2x Magnification Teleconverter Extender. Shot this handheld at 400mm from the Upper Lake at the Rudan nature reserve. Aiming the camera at the top of the ugly 15-storey, (49m), high-rise at Poseidons Torg, a central square that you walk through if you are going to and from the commuter station, the mall and the cultural centre in Handen. The monstrosity known as the Poseidon Building, (Poseidonhuset, was built back in the mid 1980s. In the foreground the top of the building that I showed you a detail of yesterday.

Facade

Facade
Testing the Viltrox C-AF 2x Magnification Teleconverter Extender with the new Canon zoom lens. Shot this handheld at 400mm. The building is one of the uglier in Haninge. It is a huge office building called Rudsjöterrassen that houses everything from a school to a hotel. It sits just meters from the commuter station in Handen, and the very popular Rudan nature reserve. I took the photo standing half way up the equally ugly spiral.

Glasshouse no longer

Växthuset
After 800 smashed and replaced windows, the local historical association, Folk & Trädgård in Tungelsta gave up. The new acrylic sheets should be a bit harder to break for the local kids. You will find this little greenhouse in the park in Tungelsta. It has been used for wedding parties and more. Not sure how appealing this new look will be, but the greenhouse will still be used for the upcoming Christmas market.

Winter Pattern

Winter Patttern
Winter, day two. Still cold, around freezing. No more snow since yesterday, but the little we got is still there. And I'm already fed up with it.

Winter selfie

That time of the year again
A thin layer of the white stuff this morning. Total chaos in the traffic as usual. All bus traffic cancelled in Stockholm because of the icy streets. Oh, and the glasses are new. Also bough bifocal contact lenses that were quite expensive.

Arturo Berly Montalvo

Skönhet, Arturo Berly Montalvo
New art exhibition at my favorite cafe Malmens konditori at Lillcentrum in Handen. Had a short chat with the artist, Arturo Berly Montalvo during a visit last week. His art can be seen at 300 locations in Stockholm alone. His paintings here has a 19th century feel to it. This oil painting is called Skönhet. Beauty. If you visit in person you can see the painting in color...

High-rise

Highrise Highrise
Two abstract photos. Taken ten days apart at the Upper Lake at the Rudan nature reserve. The reflection is a new one, it's the 18-storey high-rise Brf Blicken, still under construction so I will aim my camera at it from all sorts of different angles.

Laxknut

Laxknut
Very old Swedish word of the day. Laxknut. Dovetail joint. As seen on an abandoned building during a very muddy walk yesterday in a forest behind the Hesslingby estate in rural Österhaninge.

Mikael

Mikael
This is Mikael. My barber going back a few decades now. When he first cut my hair I was your typical Swedish kid with blonde hair and he was the opposite with very black hair. Neither of us had a beard. Today we both have gray hair and a little beard. Weird that! Photo taken at his hair saloon earlier today. Shot with my new zoom lens at f/2.8, at 200mm.

It's getting colder again

It's getting colder again
From a visit to the nature park Slätmossen. I often photograph the greenery from the little bridge but on this day I focused on the leaf on the railing.

November Sun

November Sun Gorgeous and she knows it
Arriving to the Lower Lake at the Rudan nature reserve yesterday I noticed a familiar couple out on one of the piers. We met briefly in December of last year at the other end of the lake. The little dog knows that it is very photogenic so it struck a pose as I walked out onto the pier.

Empty Seats

Empty Seats
Times change. These stadium seats were used by the football club Tyresö FF at Tyrestavallen just a few years ago. That was back when Marta and a few other world class players played for the very successful team. Then the club went bankrupt and Marta lost a million SEK. All the players left, and that was the end of that. Earlier this year the Haninge municipality got a phone call from the neighbouring municipality. They wanted to know if IFK Haninge wanted the seats for free. If so, just come and get them. And now they sit at the football pitch at Torvalla since about a week or two. Go IFK!

That Old Tree

That Old Tree
I hadn't planned to visit the old tree this week, but yesterday I got a request from a flickr user in Hyderabad, India. Abir Khalil, artist and animator, and she wanted to use an old monochrome photo of the tree for a painting, so I sent her the original file before heading over to the tree for an updated view. Photo taken with my Chinese 35mm lens.

Scaffolding

Scaffolding
Haven't been out much with the camera this last week, but here is a photo of Brf Blicken, the new high-rise building currently under construction at the huge Haningeterrassen project in central Handen. Shot with the new Canon zoom lens using one of my Viltrox teleconverter extenders.

Migratory Bird Stopover

Canada Geese
There was a man sitting on a bench down by the water at the Lower Lake at the Rudan nature reserve. He was on the phone with someone while casually throwing bread to the birds so I walked over for a few snaps of the geese.

Kontorsfönster

Kontorsfönster
I have a photo album at flickr called Swedish word of the day. Kontorsfönster means office window. This window can be seen at Rudsjöterrassen in Handen. The building is undergoing a lengthy restoration at the moment and the area itself will be a busy building site for the next decade, so I can often be seen here with my camera.

Late Autumn

Late Autumn
I got bored with just shooting evening photos for a month so here is a photo from a short visit to the tiny beach at the Upper lake at Rudan in Handen. It was a fine Autumn day, no wind at all so I figured that any photo would give a good reflection in the water. Had a chat with an elderly couple who had lived in the area for more than sixty years. They told me a little about how Handen had changed over that time period, and that really is a lot of change.

Sphere reflection

Sphere Reflection
Afternoon snap of a sphere reflection as the sun sets over Handen. Taken with the zoom lens and one of the Viltrox extenders. Cropped a bit. You might be able to see a building or two in the reflection here, but I think I will have to go back and try zooming in with both the Viltrox magnification teleconverters mounted.

Sunset Reflections

Sunset
Another November sunset. The Water Towers in Handen changes color all the time because of the new design made by the HMXW-architects. I took this photo with the help of one of my two new Viltrox extenders on the new zoom lens. To see how different the towers can look check out the rest of my photos in my flickr set.

All Saints Day

November Afternoon
it is All Saints Day today. That means that it will be crowded at the cemeteries, and there will be a lot of flickering candles there. Took this photo earlier in the week as I walked through the cemetery at the medieval church in Västerhaninge.

The Haunted Cafe

The Haunted Cafe
My favorite cafe, Malmens konditori on a dark November afternoon. As you can probably tell Natalia really likes Halloween and the,(scary?), decoration that comes with it. Dare you enter?

November Darkness

New &Old
November. Not my favorite month of the year. It feels like it is dark 24/7. Most of the the Autumn colors are gone. Icy roads in the morning. Cold and rainy. I got this idea of shooting one month of evening photos. We will see if I can go through with it. If so this is the first photo in the series. It shows the new "glass house" waiting area at the Tungelsta commuter station, next to the century old Station House, where the last station master still lives. Shot handheld with my new Canon zoom lens at ISO 1250.
