Woody
Birdman was sitting on a bench along the bike path in Jordbro on Saturday afternoon so I stopped for a chat when I noticed him from the bike. He then spotted a woodpecker up a tree, and I decided to try and zoom in on the bird with the Tamron lens. The bird took off a few seconds after I had shot this photo, with that pine cone it is eyeing here secured in it's beak.

Ah yes ... I remember your 'birdman' ...
We do not have woodpeckers here in Australia. This variety appears different from the one in America, or is that just the angle. Does he have the same jaunty coxcomb on the back of his head?
What is that pink on his belly, or is that something on the tree?
Nice catch. Greater Spotted judging by this: http://www.pbase.com/kingfisher/woodpeckers so yes it will be pink/red on its belly Julie
Lovely bird and beautiful shot!
