Taking the shot

Cycling through the nature park Slätmossen in Handen I decided to stop and take my usual photo from the wooden bridge. This guy was already there having the same idea so I decided to document him in action. I asked him if he had seen a moose nearby as they can often be seen here, but he had not.

September equinox

Höstdagjämningen took place yesterday. Also known as the September equinox. I stopped at the nature park Slätmossen in Handen for a few photos and a light lunch. I always shoot the view in the first photo because, you know, you have to really. After finishing my lunch I heard a noice so I looked around to see Mama Moose and her calf joining me in the park. Because I had decided to mostly shoot macro images I didn't have the zoom lens with me so I had to make do with the nifty fifty.

Vattenspegling

The sunny days from last week have been replaced with a lot of dark skies. This was the nature park in Handen yesterday. Vattenspegling means Water reflection. Skywatch Friday.

As I always do on my visits to the nature park in Handen I took a photo from the wooden bridge. I will have to go back when it all has turned green, shot this a few days ago.

A picnic with a view

I met two nature lover's at the Tyresta National Park. Marika and Nina. And Nina's baby boy Vilmer, a possible future nature lover by the looks of it. They were having a picnic in the autumn sunshine, and were taking photos of Vilmer when I arrived. They choose a good spot for the picnic as they were sitting down by the water at Lake Bylsjön. There's a path here known as the baby carrier path, and it is very popular. Marika and Nina have been friends since childhood. They grow up in Örnsköldsvik (up North), where Marika still lives today.They both enjoy mushroom hunting and walking in nature. These days Nina lives in Trångsund which is just a short drive from Tyresta. After taking a few photos of the trio Nina asked me if I could take a photo of them with her camera which I obviously did. Autumn Scene

I took a bike ride to the Tyresta National Park yesterday. It was a beautiful autumn day, albeit a little cold, but warm for coffee in the sunshine on the other side of the Dahlgrensgården building that you see here. The old house at the Tyresta Village is around two hundred years old. It was moved from a nearby hill many years ago. Today there is a working farm at the village and you can buy Anneli's handicraft here on weekends. The national park is very popular with tourists from all over Europe. No sign of the kids favorite horse on this visit. More photos from the park, and a portrait tomorrow. Oh, and a few words about this photo. I used the cheap Canon PowerShot and had to take three photos to get the beautiful tree in the photo.

View From A Bridge

It's Friday and time for another Skywatch post. This time from the nature park Slätmossen in Handen. I have previously showed you a bunch of portraits taken here, you might remember Andrea, or the Sun-Worshippers. Or perhaps the Roe Deer Buck. But this is a bird park so here are two ducks in a pond with a fine sky reflection. This is also one of my long time photo projects. I now have 44 photos shot from this bridge. If you have a few minutes there's a of course a slideshow below to enjoy.

A Lifesaver

A life buoy at a pond in the bird park Slätmossen in Handen. Not sure if anyone without the ability to fly has ever tried the water here but I guess it is better to be safe than sorry.

Autumn Reflection

Autumn trees reflected in a pond at the nature park Slätmossen in Handen. This was once a wetland and a peat deposit. Now it is a popular bird park, and I am a frequent visitor. Normally I will take a photo from a little bridge, but on my visit yesterday I decided it was time for a change. The last time I showed you a photo from here I had photographed a Roe Deer buck. It's also a good place to photograph people. Like Andrea. Or the Sun Worshippers.

Roe Deer Buck

Whenever I am visiting Slätmossen, the old peat moor, made into a popular bird park in Handen, I expect to meet pretty girls like Andrea or the Sun-Worshippers, or even a Dalmatian, but yesterday the park was empty. But suddenly I noticed a Roe Deer Buck walking up behind some trees where it started to eat some tasty blueberries. I was on the bike so I stopped slowly not to scare away the animal and took out my camera from the bag. I had to change to the zoom lens but the buck didn't mind waiting. Normally the animal will run away when they hear something, or if you get to close. But on this occasion it was yours truly who jumped back onto the bike and headed for home while the deer continued his lunch.

A little summer light reading

I stopped at the nature park Slätmossen for a few photos the other day and that's where I met Andrea. She had a day off work and was sitting on this bench and table reading a Nick Hornby novel, Slam. Today Andrea lives in Handen, but for two years she lived in Thailand. Together with a friend she owned a restaurant at Koh Phangan. It was called Sultan Cafe. They focused on a Swedish/Mediterranean menu as her parter was from that area. The restaurant is now history as the 7-Eleven chain bought the land. This is my third portrait from this great park. Earlier this year I met The Sun-Worshippers here and last February on a warm and sunny day I shot one of my first ever portraits when I met Kristin here.

The Sun-Worshippers

Before heading home after a lengthy bike ride in the warm weather a few days ago, I stopped at the nature park Slätmossen in Handen for my usual photo from the bridge. And from that bridge I could see these two young women sitting on a bench on the other side of the pond, so I figured one more portrait was in order. Meet Sara and Saara (Finnish spelling), good friends who live here in Handen. Both girls are students at different secondary schools.They couldn't come up with any interesting hobbies, but Saara used to play soccer until the team split, and then she gave up the sport. Sara and Saara made the most of the warm weather, because you newer know what tomorrow will bring!

View From A Bridge

This is the view from one of the wooden bridges at the Nature Park in Handen. Whenever I'm at the park, I always take a photo from this exact point. This photo was taken yesterday, and it was my 42th shot. The park called Slätmossen, opened in 2001 and is very popular with people, and the local wildlife, especially birds. Several ponds have been dug to collect the 300 million litre of surface water that pass by here every year. The purpose being to clean the water in the old wetland. The water will then find it's way to the Baltic Sea via the Husby river. During the cold winters of the 1940ths, peat was extracted from here to be used as fuel, which have made for an interesting landscape with a very rich fauna.

Nature Park

Autumn at the nature park Slätmossen in Handen today. A former wetland and peat deposit that was made into a park a decade ago. Same place two weeks ago. If this view looks familiar to you it's possible that you might have seen my View From A Bridge set.

Meet Kristin

This is Kristin. I met her yesterday at the Slätmossen nature park in Handen. She is a philosophy student ( Estestikprogrammet ), at the Södertörn University College in Huddinge. She lives in a student apartment in Handen and originally comes from Gothenburg. As the student apartments are only a few minutes walk from the park, sitting on a park bench in the sunshine, studying philosophy seems to me as a pretty good idea. This is my third photo for the 100 Strangers project that has to be one of the best flickr ideas ever. The project also have a web site.

Autumn Reflection

I took a walk in the nature park in Handen yesterday. Noticed a woodpecker and some ducks. The weather was very autumn like as you can see.
