Chasiv Yar: Fireproof

Chasiv Yar: Fireproof Photo by Oleg Petrasiuk Photo by Oleg Petrasiuk Chasiv Yar: Fireproof Chasiv Yar: Fireproof
”Chasiv Yar: Fireproof” is an open-air photography exhibition created by Ukrainian soldiers from the 24th Mechanized Brigade named after King Danylo. It documents their defense of the bombarded frontline city of Chasiv Yar. The exhibition features photographs by Oleg Petrasiuk displayed on bullet-riddled fences collected directly from Chasiv Yar. The exhibition’s true power lies in the fact that it was created entirely by Ukrainian soldiers themselves – the very people who fought for the town, documented the evidence of Russia’s war of aggression, and preserved the memory of their fellow soldiers. In a sense, the installation itself is as expressive as the photographs, as it allows visitors to literally touch the reality of this war – here in Sweden. Photos by Oleg Petrasiuk, and I recommend checking out his Facebook account for more info. I took my photos at Kungsträdgården a few days ago.

Site no. 16

Site no. 16 Site no. 16
This Summer's art exhibition at Haninge Kulturhus in Handen is called Site no. 16. The artist is Gustaf Nordenskiöld. In the show room you can see a lot of sculptures hanging from the roof. His namesake Gustaf E. A. Nordenskiöld was an explorer who worked at a site at Mesa Verde in the US, back in the 1800s. The objects here refer to real or fictive cultures. They look like real tools but the artist have changed their functionality. The objects from the dig in the US back in 1891 can today be found at a museum in Helsinki, Finland. gustafsweden.com/

Jonas Nobel

Jonas Nobel The Geological History of Haninge Folded Laundry
As I walked into the show room at the cultural centre in Handen yesterday, to look at the new exhibition by Jonas Nobel, the artist himself walked out with two friends. So I turned around and followed him to one of the outdoor sculptures, which are also part of his installation, and that's where I grabbed this portrait of Jonas. He talked a bit about his sculptures and the idea behind it which is Haninge's geological history. The objects in the showroom are office furniture and other items used around Haninge that have been covered in plastic film showing mineral structures from the island of Utö where lithium was discovered two centuries ago. Last photo shows one of three sculptures by along "Eskilsstråket". Haninge had a big laundry industry one century ago. This artwork is made from aluminium and rests on a base made from concrete it shows folded laundry. The exhibition is open for the next three months. If you speak the local lingo you can read more about the exhibition here.

Ultrahuset Exhibition

Ultrahuset Local Music History Epstein The legendary music scene Ultrahuset at Källvägen in Handen ended after an occupation and a fire that destroyed the building. For eight years back in the 1980s it was a very active music scene and every punk band that ever existed probably played there. Now a quarter of a century later an exhibition about those years opened at the Handen Museum at Getporsvägen in Handen. During my visit to the museum yesterday a few people that were active during that period during the 1980s spoke about their involvement. The photographer here is Lars Epstein from the big morning paper Dagens Nyheter. If you understand Swedish you can read his blog post about it here.
