1959 Cadillac DeVille

1959 Cadillac DeVille
Next stop, the cruising at Sveavägen. I could hear the music, (horrible), lifted the camera as I knew that it would be a "raggarbil". Spotted while out taking night shots at Skanstull on Södermalm. Cackan is the owner of the car. I googled her, and she does have an instagram account, but it looks like it is private.

Sveavägen Cruising

Pink Cadillac Nice day for it Chrysler Sveavägen Cruising Sveavägen Cruising 1965 Plymouth Sveavägen Cruising 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Stockholm Cruising 1956 Bel Air
One Saturday afternoon/evening every month, the Swedish "raggare" and anyone else driving a classic car will take over the busy Sveavägen street in central Stockholm. It is quite a spectacle with hundreds of cars lining the street. Some drive up, park their car and then spend the rest of the day at a café table, or restaurant, enjoying something to eat and drink. Others bring their own table. And then there's the people that drive back and forth to be seen. The tourists love it, and are always very surprised. Some of the locals complain about the noise and what have you, but I guess that is the price you pay when you are living in a big city. I am still going through my photos, and will show you more in the week to come.

No Regrets

No Regrets Raggarbil
This is a Swedish subculture with a difference. Some people live it 24/7, and this guy is one of them. Met him at Vegabaren yesterday during the annual Grand Prix Raggarbil event. It was a great Summer day, everyone was happy and I came home with more than 700 photos of cars and people.

Plymouth Valiant

Hillbillys Plymouth Valiant Plymouth Valiant Wunder-Baum
Impromptu photo shoot of a 1966 Plymouth Valiant at a filling station in Jordbro. The owner, Mats had bought the car just three days earlier. From another "raggare", but their taste were a bit different so Mats had already changed a few things. And I'm sad to say that the "Hillbillys" hood will be gone soon as well as the Persian rug inside! I believe that there's a cruiser gang called Hillbillys and chances are that the previous owner was a member. Shot with my new Chinese 35mm lens. A few more snaps of the Plymouth in my flickr set.

1955 Buick Century

Buick Century
Spring is definitely here now. Spotted this old Buick parked at the shopping centre in in Västerhaninge a couple of days ago. The owner told me that he had bought the car after last Summer's annual greaser meet at Vegabaren, (one of my favorite events in Haninge). He looked familiar, as did his girlfriend, whom I am pretty sure I have photographed at that event once or twice, but this time I was happy just to shoot the old Buick.

Vintage Rides

Chevrolet Impala Buick Super
That is a Buick Super on the second photo. The green ride is a Chevrolet Impala, probably the most popular classic American car among the many "raggare" in Sweden. The girl driving it looks very familiar so I have no doubt taken her portrait at the annual meet at Vegabaren here in Handen.

Volvus Raggisus

Volvus Raggisus
Look what I found! Your typical "Volvoraggare" (Volvus Raggisus. A very Swedish subculture of the even more Swedish subculture Raggare that I have shown you here many times before). Driving his pimped car with the hot girlfriend riding shotgun. Oh, and I'm pretty sure they noticed me.
