Earlier this year a little girl was killed when she was climbing on a grave stone at a cemetery in Sweden. So now all grave stones that look like they possibly could fall over have been secured. This is my grandfather, Oskar Andersson's headstone, at the cemetery at the Medieval church in Västerhaninge. I think they have over done it a bit here. If this headstone fell over somehow I doubt it would kill even a squirrel.
I thought the USA was the only place this crazy. Whatever happened to the concepts "just bad luck" and "hey, it was her fault"?
ReplyDeleteWe have had a spate of malicious gravestone toppling over the past year. I wonder if such a set up might help deter that practice.
ReplyDeleteYour grandfathers' resting place looks very well cared for.
A bit of an over-reaction! Typical of the times.
ReplyDeleteMay Oskar rest in peace! At least now he won't have to worry about his headstone falling over, which, even if it didn't kill a squirrel, would look rather unsightly.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. You should post a link from Julie's new meme about grave sites.

Thanks for the tip J Bar will do.
ReplyDeleteYes it does seem a bit of 'overkill' pardon the pun!
ReplyDeleteBetter safe than sorry : (
ReplyDeleteI have never heard that story. I agree with Jack. That sounds like a US government thing. It is probably a one in a million happenstance.
ReplyDeleteHope the squirrels will be okay.
ReplyDeleteit looks as if it's being hugged.
ReplyDeleteYes, it does bear a resemblance to a hug! And I agree with Mark: overkill in the example of your grandfather's memorial. Gopvernments sometimes try to protect us from ourselves too much. I blame the lawyers, actually.
ReplyDeleteThanks for contributing to my new meme, Steffe. Your support is much valued.
Sorry it took so long for me to visit your post. I had to travel away for two days.
Just saw the movie, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, the views of the remoteness of a Sweden winter I can't get out of my mind. Quite romantic.
ReplyDeleteSteffe, this is great! I kept looking at the top photo asking myself, "Safe? Safe? What's safe? LOL! Thanks for the 2nd pic! :)
ReplyDeletepretty sad to die like that!
