Walking past the cemetery at the
Medieval church in Västerhaninge (where
Sara works), I spotted a modern day gravedigger in action. Must be hard work. But probably a bit easier today with the help of a modern digger, compared to when the church was new 800 years ago!
Impressionnant ce cimetière sous la neige...
ReplyDeleteDoes it reach a point during the winter there when the ground is too hard to dig and burial must wait until spring?
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking that with snow on the ground one must be careful to dig in the right spot.
ReplyDeleteI always think it's especially sad to bury someone in the winter. So hard to leave someone you loved in that cold place. :(
ReplyDeleteSteffe, I think you should have stopped in the church and said hello to Sara! Unless you're afraid of being "enlightened?"
ReplyDeleteIt must be really hard to dig in the frozen ground!
ReplyDeleteIt is a strange scene to me... : )
ReplyDeleteWith either modern tools or just a shovel, it's still a cold job. Glad I don't have to do it.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he's digging the grave for the Democrat candidate for the U.S. Senate that was killed by voter anger at Obama yesterday in Massachusetts....
ReplyDeleteThat is such a pretty scene! I love graveyards, the history and the quietness.
ReplyDeleteThe snow certainly makes life (and death) hard!
ReplyDeleteso do you think they still would ever need the Grave Digger's Handbook?
ReplyDeleteI'm yet to read The Book Thief , but it's on my list.
ReplyDeleteA bit macabre! Gordon's comment is amusing but pretty realistic at times.
ReplyDeleteI guess it snowed 800 years ago, so that would be just as tough.
ReplyDeleteI would think so.
