Hammarbyhöjden, nicknamed Vita staden, the White City, dates back to 1930. There are a lot of interesting architecture from that period here. These row houses are more modern, though, from 2016. Designed by Arlert Arkitektkontor, which is if I am not mistaken just one man.
Bertil Arlert. Hammarbyhöjden is located close to Hammarby sjöstad that I have shown you a few times. This very inviting metro suburb that sits high up on a hill is just a few stations from the central parts of Stockholm.
I wonder why it is called White City... : )
ReplyDeleteModern houses were built here 90 years ago. Funciionalism it was called. And they were all painted white, hence the name
DeleteDo all new houses there have to be painted white?
ReplyDeleteNo, that was just something they did all those years ago. These row houses fits in nicely though. I will show you a very different building from the same area tomorrow.
DeleteVery contemporary.
ReplyDeleteThough modern design, the fence does look a bit scrubby
ReplyDeleteAgreed, could use a clean-up.
