My third post about the Viking Era runestone that was found last spring in a field at Småhamra. Previous posts
here and
here. Since my last post the farmer Rolf Norlin, has been out ploughing again, and just as my friend Jim guessed last year when I told him about the historic find, Rolf found the missing piece of the runestone in the same field. So it is now possible to read the whole inscription, and the discussion now is if the two pieces should be put together or left like you can see here.
It should definitely be put back together.
ReplyDeleteI don't know whether they should be put together physically, but certainly they can be put together in terms of interpreting them.
ReplyDeleteSuch a fantastic find - I also enjoyed the flickr set you'd posted previously. It would be wonderful if the pieces could be brought together, made whole again.
ReplyDeleteThis new discovery is really exciting. Doesn't look like it was repositioned as the farmer had hoped. Do you know yet what the rune says?
ReplyDeleteYou can read the inscription on one of the photos in the flickr set.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to following the debate. What are your thoughts on what should happen to the runes
ReplyDeletei vote for putting them back together.
ReplyDeleteLike Brattcat I would like to see the Runestone as it once looked nearly one thousand years ago.
ReplyDeleteProbably left where they lie. But I'm interested in what the inscription says. Do you know?
ReplyDeleteLike I said in a previous comment you can read the translated description in one of the photos in the flickr set.
ReplyDeletemust be so cool to find something like that!!
