Catch of the Day
The weather was perfect for an ice fishing contest today. The sun was shining from a clear blue winter sky. The temperature had gone up considerable from earlier in the week and it was around 0 C when I arrived to Lake Rudan in Handen. The fishing club Lilla Fiskelyckan arranges an ice fishing contest at the lower lake every winter. This year they counted 25 people out on the ice, but for some reason only seven people took part in the contest. The winner had already gone home, but I did find one guy who had managed to catch a fish. The three guys on the last photo are the fish wardens at this nature reserve. The guy to the left is called Christer and I have met and photographed him a few times before.
That made me laugh Steffe, the temperature had gone up to 0 degrees, that's crazy! Poor wee fishy!!
ReplyDeleteThese are great Steffe!
ReplyDeletegreat day and nice pics of fishing
ReplyDeleteLooks like a good supper to me... mmmmm!
ReplyDeleteSteffe, I watch your photos with great fascination. I have ice here too, but it's in small cubes at the bottom of my glass.
ReplyDeleteThis year, we will return to Europe in Winter just to see how you manage it!

I guess that's big enough to make dinner! Hope his wife doesn't mind cleaning it.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a walleyed pike from Minnesota. Maybe if I was younger I could make sense of sitting on ice for hours to maybe catch a slimy, slippery thing that I would have to gut and scale in order to cook it and eat it! These days I get my fish cooked and frozen at the supermarket...
ReplyDeleteSure is better than -10 Grace.
ReplyDeleteIf this had been the 1940s I'm sure she would have done it Halcyon.
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment Christer.
I could have used a drink with ice this afternoon!
That's how I do it Lowell.
yuck, his finger in the gills?
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with the other two images, but the top one is just GREAT!:)
ReplyDeleteLooks like great fun with a beautiful meal to finish with.
ReplyDeleteVery nice set of pictures, with these temperatures I guess it is better for the fishes to end it quickly...
