This bronze sculpture is called The Philosopher. He sits in the middle of a lawn near a few benches, at the bus stop at the mall in Handen, so he is often surrounded by a lot of people. Whenever I see him I think of Gollum, from The Lord of the Rings by Tolkien. The artist is a sculptor called Sture Collin, who has done quite a few works of art in this style. I posted another photo of this artwork on another blog a few years ago, and the artists son, Max found it and left a comment.
Black and White weekend.
That is an interesting piece...
ReplyDeleteNow that is weird. Cool that Max found your other post. I love how the Internet brings people together from far afield. My verification word is angest; almost a good description.
ReplyDeletePrecious!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully captured Steffe, excellent in B&W with just the right amount of blurred background to show off this unique sculpture perfectly. I can see why you thought of Gollum!!
ReplyDeletetres belle et etrange statue, elle est prenante.
ReplyDeleteYes, I can see Gollum, but my first thoughts were to Rodin's sculpture, 'The Burghers of Calais' which I think is especially splendid.
ReplyDeleteLooks like he has had a bad day. (how I felt on 1 Jan)
ReplyDeleteI like this work, it reminds me of something I have seen recently, but I can't remember where I have seen these works. Probably online...
ReplyDeleteThe photo looks great and works wonderfully as a B+W. It does remind one of Gollum.
ReplyDeleteHave a Wonderful New Year, Steffe!
ReplyDeleteWell done, Steffe. Those gnarled hands would ache! I like the narrow depth of field you used.
ReplyDeleteA fine photo of a rather strange sculpture. It has an ominous feel. I agree with you about Gollum!
ReplyDeleteI have been out of touch and obviously have missed a lot on your blog. Love your compilation of street portraits, I am always amazed by your ability to reach out to people, and their candor in return. But you know I had to comment on this one. This is really an amazing piece, there is so much emotion there, the eyes are really wonderful. I see your connection with gollum. And of course the fierce puppy dog - glad you made it home alive :-).
