I visited the Easy Rider Festival in Handen last Saturday. Saw some very cool and unique motorcycles. Old and new. And a couple of interesting trikes, plus one or two home-made bikes. And naturally I shot a few portraits. All of which I will show you in the coming days. One thing that is certain is that bikers love chrome and skulls. Another thing that is certain is that I have to shoot Self Portrait Reflections whenever I have an opportunity to do so...
The first one is very "Terminator" like. How do they keep the chrome so polished?
ReplyDeleteThose are very cool shots Steffe!
ReplyDeleteGosh,-different and also nice shots!
ReplyDeleteI am also impressed about the polishing work! :-)
It's about time we got some self-portraits. Loved all three.
ReplyDeleteVery creative, Steffe!
ReplyDeleteLove your reflection in all of them!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting shots.
ReplyDeleteThese photos are wonderful and such a creative take on the "self-portrait".
ReplyDeleteOn a serious note, I wish you could teach an on-line class on how to approach people for photos. So often I see interesting people and think - seriously - "Steffe would be able to take that person's portrait and get their life story - both verbally and in a photo." You've a true talent for that.
You got a "triple shot" on that last one. Great job Steffe. Can't wait to see more.
ReplyDeletebel autoportrait, la tête de mort est grandiose, j'adore
ReplyDeleteI agree, the first one sure looks like Terminator with those red eyes.
ReplyDeleteNo idea about the polishing issue.
Here is a short class for approaching people when you want to take their portrait.
Before you go out, get a business card with your web address and email info (I use moo.com). Never approach someone with the camera visible. Ask if they have a couple of minutes. Explain about your daily blog and that it's part of a global community. Let them know what it was that made you approach them in the first place. Tell them that you need a few quick facts, so that you can tell a story with the photo. Ask about name (or nickname), job situation and if they have some interesting or different hobby. That will get anyone talking. Then after writing all those answers down in your notebook, it's time to take the photos. By now you will both be a little relaxed as you have talked for a bit and are no longer strangers. Be sure to take as many photos as you can while explaining that they can see the photos then and there.
You need to bend over and hold the camera between your ankles and snap the shutter. Works for me every time.
ReplyDeleteYou are good as you are creative, very nice and funny shots!
ReplyDeleteHaH!Good for you for seeing a good opportunity for getting some reflection shots. Amazing how different they are from each other.
ReplyDeleteCool bikes! i see you take your camera everywhere too!
ReplyDeleteHi, Steffe! I've added you to my blog list...where have I been?? I really like your photos.
ReplyDeleteGreat reflections, esp. the middle one!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots and a great intro into the psychology of approaching people for ṕhotos.
