I guess there must be some advantage to them and the biggest is probably the weight. I have a large 70-200mm lens that adds a lot of weight to the Canon Rebel camera. So I seldom use it or the Canon cameras. Instead I use the point and shoot Lumix DMC-ZS20 for almost everything.
