On the bike path

Alfa Romeo I always find it hard to cycle on the bike paths around Haninge when there's stolen and crashed cars blocking the way for days and days. This Alfa Romeo is doing just that near the commuter station in Jordbro. As I took the photo a concerned citizen came up and we started talking. He lived in Jordbro and presented himself as a big time complainer (and cab driver), he told me that he would inform the municipality about this.

Haninge Bus Stop

A Crappy Bus Stop
If you are interested in art, the gallery behind the Medieval church in Österhaninge might be a place worth a visit. I usually take the bike on my visits, but if you want to use public transport this fine bus stop with the Hesslingby estate in the background is your stop. For your sake I really hope you are not planning a visit if it rains. Or if it is windy. Or if it is snowing, Or just cold. But what's with all the complaining I hear you say? There's a fine bench to rest on so what's the trouble here really? Well if you sat on it chances are you would fall over backwards.

That Old Tree

That Old Tree
This is how the old tree looks today. All the leaves are gone and the tree is preparing for Winter, but as I'm typing this it's unusually warm with 15C, thanks to the strong winds from Africa.

Ice-cream and Coffee

Ice-cream & Coffee
Weird weather of late. As I'm typing this it's 6C from a very grey sky, and it has been raining. Later in the week we are expecting up to 15C and a bit of sunshine, I sure hope that happens. I took this photo four days ago at my favorite cafe. It was maybe 3C, but with a blue sky so tough Viking Micke Klein and one of his sons decided to enjoy ice-cream and coffee outdoors. You have seen Micke before, but as you don't remember that click here.

Remembering Halvdan

Runestone Runestone at Norrby
This runestone stands on a grassy field at Opp-Norrby in Handen. I took the Autumn snap last week, and the somewhat greener photo back in June. The message written with the futhark runic alphabet dates back one thousand years. It says something like this: Torfast had this stone raised after his son Halvdan. A farmer found the stone on his land back in 1915.

Written in Concrete

The Bleeding Obvious
If you don't have any money you can't consume. Looks like there's a new street poet in town. Not sure who it is, but a fitting name could be the bleedin' obvious. Found under the new bridge at Krigslida.

A Mythical Creature

Alvdrottning
I met an Älvdrottning recently. You have to be careful around them as they have magical skills. They are beautiful human-like female creatures that can sometimes be seen dancing in the mist. In fact in folklore they are said to create the mist with their dance.

That Old Tree

That Old Tree Panorama tree
What a difference from the last time you saw the old tree. Most of the leaves are gone now. To complicate the shoot, I used the 85mm lens at f/2.8, and shot from the usual spot on the path. It took around sixty photos to cover the scene as you can see in the collage.

Cecilia

Cecilia Garn
When I took this portrait of Cecilia at the Viking Festival at the Handen Museum on Saturday I got a girl with a pearl earring feeling. Cecilia was selling colorful yarn at the market.

Two Winning Faces

The Face of a Winner The Ultra Marathon Winner
The annual 50k Sörmland Ultra Marathon race took place today. The weather was perfect for running. A blue sky, no wind and maybe 13C. The race goes from Björkhagen in Stockholm via Alby and Tyresta National Park to the Rudan Nature Reserve in Handen. And that's where I was. I talked to the two very impressive winners. In the women's race Kajsa Berg won, just like she did last year. If you have a good memory you will remember my portrait of her from one year ago. She is super impressive, and if you are interested you can read an article about her here. In the men's race the winner was Daniel Nilsson. He was very happy with this, his fifth title in this race! Both portraits taken just minutes after the two athletes crossed the finishing line. They don't even look a bit tired...

Misty Morning

The Cottage
Time for another look at the cottage. I have shown it to you before as it is one of the places at the Nödesta farm in Nedersta that I try to document from time to time. I always try to get a different composition and was helped here by Autumn leaves and morning mist.

Cool Car of the Day

Thunderbird
Back in August at the big Greaser meet there were a few cars that I couldn't shoot the way I wanted as they were crammed in everywhere so I was quite happy when I spotted one of them a few weeks later. This is a 1960 Ford Thunderbird. This was one of the first Brenizer method photos I shot with the 85mm lens. Mid-shoot the owner and daughter walked into the frame, so I had to explain that I needed to take a few more photos before they could drive off. Came out kinda cool me thinks.

National Cinnamon Roll Day

Cinnamon Roll Day!
You might have missed it so I just wanted to let you know that we celebrated National Cinnamon Roll Day in Sweden yesterday. I enjoyed mine at my favorite cafe, Malmens Konditori in Handen, where they were busy baking kanelbullar all day long. The hip and fun social site Findery that you all should join celebrated with me.

Chevy Truck

Chevy Truck
I have seen this 1936 Chevy truck a few times. I recently spotted it in Västerhaninge and decided to have a go at shooting it. Talked with the owner Ingvar, who uses it on a daily basis during the summer. And sometimes even during the Winter, as you can see if you follow this link. We looked at a few photos from before and during the renovation. That job took nearly five years, but the result is impressive. Apparently the truck has only had one other owner, in the US, before it came to Sweden. This is a Brenizer-method photo shot with the 85mm lens.

A runic inscription

Viking Age Runestone
A few people think they see a face when they look at this. This is a detailed look at a part of the Sö262 runestone at Årsta castle. It dates back one Millennium, or to the Viking Era. The stone was found at the Blista Bay not far from it's current position, and it was moved here and assembled in 1885. One piece of the stone is missing, but the inscription reads:"suain × lit × risa × stin ...... faþur × sin × kuþan × auk × iftiR × kuþfar. Translation by my friend Jim. In English it says, Sven had the stone raised after his good father and Gudvar (his mother). If you want to see a zoomed out photo, press here. Theme Day for October is Details.
