Autumn tree and leaves

Autumn trees and leaves

The forecast for Sunday said rain and grey skies. They were wrong. I like that. So I took a bike ride around Haninge and stopped for photo shoots at a few places in Västerhaninge and Österhaninge. One of those photos will be posted here tomorrow, stay tuned. This is a tree at the Västerhaninge church and graveyard.

Moose

Meandering through the forest...

I was planning for a short hike through the forest today. But as it was raining from a grey sky I cancelled. Here's what I was hoping to see. A moose meandering through the forest.

Autumn Reflection

I took a walk in the nature park in Handen yesterday. Noticed a woodpecker and some ducks. The weather was very autumn like as you can see.

Elly's Bar

Elly's Bar

Elly's Bar in Tungelsta. Being repainted. Bigger photo. Half of the first floor used to be the post office for many years. Now there's karaoke here, so I will not enter. But back in the seventies when it was a cafe, they served a fantastic meat ball sandwich here. And they had some very cool pinball machines. Those were the days.

Oh, and a few years ago they shot a guy here.

zoom in on the decorators.

Tearing down the house

Tearing down the house

This was once a yellow cottage at Allevägen in Tungelsta. The cottage a few weeks ago, seen from the commuter station. Bigger photo. The railway line, Nynäsbanan between Västerhaninge and Nynäshamn was closed for a few weeks this summer. Stone crushing machines were blasting a hill nearby to extract crude rock for a new road and make room for a second rail track. The platform at the station will be 240 meters long when the work is done here sometimes next year.

Terminator endoskeleton?

Terminator endoskeleton?

In the forest at the Sanda farm in Österhaninge you will find this rusty figure. It's probably the Terminator. But how did he end up here in Rural Österhaninge?

Dance Floor with a view

Dance Floor With a View

Once upon a time...

Back in 1929 a non profit organisation created Årsta Havsbad as a summer resort for workers. Around 600 small cottages (15-25 square metre), were built along with a hotel, convenient store, tennis courts and more. The hotel was overlooking the dance floor here. It's gone now, today many of these small cottages have been rebuilt and lots of people live here year round. It's my favorite beach and I visit as often as I can. Here you can see the Midsummer Pole still there. It will not be replaced until next summer. Bigger photo.

Grey Heron

Grey Heron

Grey Heron taking off

On a visit to Lake Rudan today I managed to take a few photos of a Grey Heron, or Gråhäger as we call them. A wading bird that can be seen in Europe and Asia. It's a big bird. One meter tall with a wingspan of two meters. It can weigh up to two kilo.

A Windsurfer

The Windsurfer II

A windy day in Haninge, perfect for some windsurfing on the Hårsfjärden bay. Bigger photo. Visiting the beach at Årsta Havsbad, I followed this guy as he took out his board on the bay. More photos here. Or try the slideshow.

Waves rolling in on the beach

Waves rolling in on the beach

A bit of summer returned today. Windy and 17C. I stopped at the beach at Årsta Havsbad. Took some photos. Then went for a walk along the beach, before resting on a bench overlooking the bay. Tomorrow I will show you a windsurfer in action. Bigger photo.

What you can find in a forest

Moonshine?

I took a promenade in a forest. At Stav. An area with trees, trees, and more trees. And also a few old farms and a newly built area called Stavshöjden where a lot of horse lovers have moved in. I was hoping to find some wild animals, like Moose or Deer. Or maybe a few birds or fungus. Must have been the wrong day for that. All I could find was this. I don't know what it is, but one word came to me as I moved in a little closer. Moonshine?

Living among the trees

Living among the trees

A little red house among the trees. This is Kalvsvik in Österhaninge. An rural area with a few horse farms and a runestone. This photo was taken from the hill where I took the birch tree photo. Bigger photo. In the forest behind the house there's a mystery rock.

Hill Top Tree

Hill Top Tree

Birch tree on a hill top close to Gullringskärret in Jordbro. From the hill top you can see an old farm, the motorway to Stockholm, a horse farm, the church tower in Österhaninge, roof tops from Jordbro, the nature reserve Gullringskärret, a few open fields and a forest or two. And you can of course see all of that in my flickr stream!

Reflection

A Krigslida Reflection

Haninge is growing. New areas are being developed all the time as I have shown on this blog a number of times. Here are the two latest houses to be built at Krigslida. Along Skogsvägen and Nederstavägen. Seen as a reflection from the commuter station. Bigger photo. For a more normal view press here.

View from a tree

View from a tree

Vertigo!

I'm standing high up on a tiny tree platform. Looking down over a field and a forest at Stav in Tungelsta. The hunting season is only a few weeks away. There are a lot of hunting blinds in this area. I've had a few Moose meetings here and that is what the hunters will be hoping for. My money are on the King of the Forest, as we call the moose in this country.

Probably better at the Original size.

Lingonberry

Lingonberry

Since my childhood I've enjoyed eating blodpudding for lunch. With lingon berries, also known as Cowberries, (Vaccinium vitis-idaea). These berries grow in the forest at Bergdalen in Tungelsta. Some people eat them with pancakes but I prefer blueberries with my pancakes. I just returned from a walk in that forest, and to give you a weather update I should have used a pair of wellington boots!

That Old Oxel

That Old Tree

It's been raining all day in Tungelsta. Gray skies. Didnt take that many photos, but I did go up to shoot this weeks version of the old tree, and here it is.

There's a troll in the garden

There's a troll in the garden

Not my garden of course. The troll here looks like it is thinking" what am I doing here". And that's a very good question. In this particular garden there are three more trolls. But not for much longer. They could be liberated any day now, or night...

Feet Perspective

View from a pier

Resting on a pier at Lower Lake Rudan. Bigger photo. I took a bike ride around the lake. There's several paths for walking and mountain bike riding in the area. Since it was a beautiful day I decided to stop at all the piers for rest and photography. I shot a few macro photos of dragonflies, a few bird shots and a few like this one. In the background office buildings at Najaden in Handen adjacent to the railway line Nynäsbanan. If you take the commuter from Stockholm it's only a 15 minute ride. The train stops at the Upper Lake. I managed to get back home before the rain came.

I heard noises coming from graveyard...

I heard noises coming from graveyard...

...but when I got there all I could hear was dead silence.

This is the church in Västerhaninge. Around 800 years old. Lightning has struck the tower twice. There was a fire here back in 1831. My grandparents, my father and a few other family members rest here. I visit with the camera every now and then. Bigger photo.

Touched By Flowers

Touched By Flowers

This sculpture, called Rörd av blommor, or Touched By Flowers can be seen at the park in Tungelsta. Bigger photo. Or zoom in a bit with this photo. The artist is Klara Kristalova. The artwork is made from bronze and shows a hand that touches some flowers. The non-profit organisation Föreningen Folk&Trädgård in Tungelsta (gardeners and flower enthusiasts), sponsored the sculpture. Around the artwork some Buxus sempervirens have been planted. Yesterday was Tungelsta Day so a lot of people visited the park.

A Krigslida Reflection

As I have shown you before new houses are being built all over Haninge. Bigger photo. Here is another one. Seen as a reflection from Krigslida commuter station. This house can be found along Skogsvägen.

Street Lights at Nederstaleden

Streetlights

Theme day at the Daily City Photo Blog. Street lights and signs. This is a straight in Västerhaninge called Nederstaleden. Bigger photo. It goes next to the 100 year old railway line, Nynäsbanan and ends at the Västerhaninge commuter station. No light pollution here I think. I used to jog here many years ago. These days I'm usually on my bicycle and once every week for nearly one year now, I have used a shortcut through the forest to the left for my photo project A path in the forest, so I figured this would be a good place for the theme day as I'm here a couple of times every week. Now check out some of the other participants in the monthly theme.
