Runestone at Fors

Runestone at Fors

You can find this runestone at the big horse farm at Fors. I had my flickr friend Ka-Ka translate it for us. "Thaurir och Thiahkn lät resa stenen ... efter .... far Thiahkn .... son sin" in english "Thaurir and Thiahkn let raise stone .... after .... father Thiahkn .... son his". That's his translation. I have a flickr set with more photos from this area. They have their own web site in swedish.

At the murder scene

At the murder scene

A journalist and a photographer outside the apartment at Tungelstavägen 31 B in Västerhaninge. A thirteen year old girl was raped and murdered here a few hours ago. Her friend, another 13 year old girl was also raped and stabbed, but managed to escape. She ran to a nearby bus stop where she could sound the alarm. Police surrounded the apartment, and when they stormed it they found the other girl dead. The murderer, a 27 year old man then attacked the police with the murder weapon, a knife. After a struggle the police managed to arrest him. You can read about it in english at The local.

That Old Tree (with visible leaves!)

That Old Tree (with visible leaves!)

A windy day at Välsta in Tungelsta. And for the first time this year, you can see the oak leaves. It only took 35 visits! A couple of times each week I take a walk up to this tree for a photo project at flickr. The pictures always turn out ok. At the end of the year I will print a photo book with pictures from 2006.

There are many horse farms in Tungelsta. This one is at Välsta. I used a zoom lens here. I was on my way up to the old oak (see my set at flickr) for a sunset 360 panorama and stopped for a few shots of the horses in the horse pasture.

Runestone

Runestone

A runestone in Österhaninge, not very long from the ancient grave field in Jordbro. The inscription reads: Ödgunn and Arnggärd had this stone raised after their brother. The stone was found in 1956. It had probably been standing at an old bridge close to a little river. Today it stands next to a horse farm on the old road in Österhaninge. This place was very popular with the vikings and you can see lots of remains in this area.

Grave Stones

Grave Stones

Another visit to the ancient grave field in Jordbro. I parked the bike and went for a long walk through the forest. This is a group of ten stones. All around one meter of height. During a dig, graves were found under all ten stones. Fragments of burned bones were found along with resin and pieces from ceramic vessels. In one of the graves a bone from a bear was found. There are a number of path here and it's agreat place for long promenades. PRESS HERE for a bigger photo.

Hungry Magpie

breakfast

I was eating breakfast on the veranda this sunday morning when the magpie flew in. Give me some bread he said, so I did. They live down at the spruce hedge, some 50 meters from my house. This one is very quick. Sits in a birch tree at the veranda and waits for me to throw him the bread. Nearly caught it in mid air! PRESS HERE for a bigger photo, or go to flickr by pressing the photo.

On my way to the new Nature Reserve, Gålö. I could live in that house. Nice sea view. PRESS HERE for a bigger photo. Gålö was declared a Nature Reserve last week. It's a beautiful place in the archipelago. I went for a walk on a small islet called Björkö. Had some lunch down at the water, strolled through the green fields and the many oaks. Took a few photos. Will upload them to my Gålö Set at flickr if you want to see some more of the place. There's a few marinas, a number of beaches, summer houses for rent, farms to visit and much more.

Found this on a bike ride. Some restaurant has dumped bread next to the road. There's two Bird Parks not long from here. That would have been a better place.

sven had this stone made

sven had this stone made

A runestone at the Årsta Castle in Haninge. The inscription reads: Sven had this stone made...(a few words are missing here)
...his good father and for Godvar. The runestone was moved to this location in 1864. Runestones was the number one status symbol one thousand years ago. Often placed as boundary mounds. There's a cross at the top so Sven was a Christian. Today the castle acts as a clubhouse for a golf course. There's a big farm here that has been turned into a conference center. Everything owned by the same family.

(old) Murder Story

Murder story

This is Femstena Rör. Placed where the villages Årsta, Valsta and Sanda met. The stone in the middle is said to be from a grave. There are two diferent stories to what happened. In the first it says that 5 russian soldiers were killed and buried here back in 1719 by the local people. The russian fleet had attacked and the soldiers were on their way to Årsta Castle, but got lost in the forest. PRESS HERE to see the castle. The other version, dating to around 1600 is that a servant at the castle was ordered to murder his master by the lady at Årsta Castle. He failed, and as punishment he was paved in behind the brick wall in the castle cellar.
